PSU - MOBO compatibility

Go to solution Solved by --SID--,

An ATX3.x PSU is compatible with any ATX class motherboard from the past 18 years. There's the ATX standard for.

Hey so there are some discount deals where i live and im eyeing an overkill PSU for my setup, but when i set it up my likely build on pcpartpicker i got this warning:

The Corsair RM850x (2024) 850 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply does not provide a -12 V supply voltage. We are unable to verify if the MSI B450M MORTAR MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard requires it”

im struggling to understand what it means - anyone here able to help me out perhaps?

What part of the two sentences do you not understand?

The -12V rail is optional. Unless something specifically mentions that it requires -12V, you can assume it won't need it.

Thanks for your response. I wanted to assume this was the case, but based on the way its written it made me think that this rail is a requirement for the mobo itself.

Im not the brightest with this stuff, so my bad if im asking silly questions here
