I'm an avid Duckduckgo user yet I have never liked the name, it's too long and stupid. I always wondered why don't they just shorten it to Duck and go with Duck.com.

Apparently Duck.com is owned by none other than Google who has acquired the domain name in an unrelated acquisition. What's interesting is duck.com is not an idle domain name, it actually does redirect you to somewhere: To google.com. Google own so many domain names not all of them lead to anywhere. Yet this one redirects you to google.com.

I don't think this is a coincidence. They are preying on people who hear of this new search engine called ducksomething and just type duck.com to get to it. That's slightly evil don't you think?

It would hardly be surprising if Google thought of DuckDuckGo as a potential threat. Anonymous searching is in complete defiance of how Google makes a chunk of it's money.

I've been trying to phase Google out as much as possible. I've been using DuckDuckGo for about 6 months. Gotta say I love the new changes. I don't really care about the name. All search engines have silly names.

Bing

Yahoo

Google

Silliness is a non-issue but all search engines have one thing in common. Short and catchy names. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to do a market research and find that the names is having a negative impact on duckduckgo's adoption. They really need to find a shorter name in my opinion.
