This cable is only USB 2, you need a higher speed cable

Hey, all!  I have a Dell Inspiron 5420 laptop, and an ASUS Zen Screen.  Both have USB-C to DP logos on the USB-C ports.  But, when I try to connect them, I get no response from the laptop and this message from the Zen Screen.

"This monitor supports video by "DP Alt Mode", please check with your NB/PC manufactures if their USB-C port has DP signal output."

Since the USB-C port has a DP logo, that should 100% totally work, right?  Additionally, the laptop specs specifically say it offers DisplayPort through the USB-C.  The Zen Screen has no other connections, and I can't use the buttons on the screen (except for power).   "Detect other display" doesn't work either.

What am I missing here?

The cable might not be meeting the spec, remember when Linus said that they were working on cables, they are working on cables to fix this issue.

It's a brand new USB-C to USB-C cable (actually, the one that came with my iPhone), so I had thought it would be compatible.  Do I need a specialty USB-C cable instead?
