Hi everyone.

Im trying to do some research on raid controllers, that would work with Windows 11. Im struggling.

Can someone give me some advice on what I should be looking for, reliable brands, etc (plus, hopefully available in NZ)

Thanks in advance, =)

Are you sure a RAID card is what you are looking for?  My understanding is software RAID performs better than hardware now and does not leave you with potentially an unrecoverable RAID array if you cannot find a replacement for a broken card.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)

I recently tested performance of hardware vs software (zfs and mdadm) and hardware raid generally won. Having a battery backed cache means you can do many write operations faster while still being safe. I made a YT video about it but not gonna self promo. I'd argue that for home use its generally close enough, and if you need the most speed anyways go SSD.

I guess this is what I'm looking for. A card with SAS on it. As the server I have at the moment, I'm using onboard sas. I want to at least upgrade my server to better hardware for performance.

The server I got isn't the greatest. Isn't fast. Performance is low. Hence why I'm looking for a raid card.

What server do you have? What drives? Controller?

Typically switching HBA controllers won't just help performance.

Full info please? What raid config?

I'm pretty sure there is no sas on that board, its sata only.

Are you running raid in software or hardware?

Pretty sure it does have SAS. My mate set it all up, managed to put a SSD in it for windows.

All I know is it's using windows config for HDD space. But wanting to upgrade whole system to something with more power behind it. As I run Plex on it, it struggles with multiple people using it.

More details please? Its rally hard to help when we don't have specifics.

What performance are you seeing?

If you already have SAS onboard and are keeping the motherboard; I would say just get a SAS Expander like the RES2SV240

If you're looking to upgrade the whole system; then get a Broadcom/LSI 9300 HBA or later

As for Plex performance; need more details to help with that. Might be better to start a seperate thread if you need help.

There is at least a SFF-8087 port, the controller is not great though:

Just cause it uses a SFF 8087 port doesn't mean its sas. It says SATA only in those notes in your screenshot.
