I followed this guide to overclock my 3570k but I can't tell if it worked or not. In the BIOS it says that my CPU is set to 4.2GHz (stock is 3.4GHz), but when I'm in the OS and I open CPU-Z, it says that my core speed is 3400MHz and my multiplier x34.0 (16-42) when running Prime95. Real Temp also says 3.4GHz at full load.

DO you have turbo disabled?

Nope, don't think so, but I'll double check.

You can also disable turbo and run constantly 4.2ghz on all cores.(with the turbo i think it is: core0=4.2 core1=4.2 core2= 4.1 core3=4.0)

Didn't work :/ Still only 3.4Ghz in CPU-Z.

In the BIOS I get this: 42.0 x 100.00

In Windows I get this: 34.0 x 100.00

Ok, just some basics to follow.

Go to bios, disable spread spectrum, disable Intel speedstep technology,go to multiplier, select per core, type in all 4 cores 42 and voltage to whatever makes it boot.(1.2-1.25 should be enough for every chip)

Once done, open cpu-z and a 3D program like cinebench, let it run and look at cpu-z.

I can't find Intel Speedstep Technology and how do I select per core? I'm using an MSI motherboard if that helps.

That, i can't help you. I own(ed) an ASRock motherboard.. Search on google for it or ask anyone here with a MSI board.

Found it. In the BIOS it's just called EIST.

Edit:

But I can't find the EIST in MY BIOS... ugh

This is a long shot but, Sometimes when Windows is acting weird the hardware you can install or uninstall some updates that would require a restart. For some reason Windows will work as it is supposed to after it configures updates.

Nah, that's not it. I just can't find the EIST setting in the BIOS even though my manual clearly shows me how to get there. The manual also says this:

"This field only appears with installed CPUs that support this technology."

Does the i5-3570k not support EIST?
