Im looking into buying a 4080 Super for a build im planning but the price even for the cheapest PNY card jumps from $999 to $1200 often. Is it worth buying a used 4080S if I can find one and if so what sites should i look for?

A used GPU is a fantastic way to get a GPU for a lower price.  The 4080/s is so new that a used model is nothing to worry about ( Just make sure you test the GPU or get sent proof of it working )

You might find the RTX 4080 non Super to be cheaper compared to the Super as its been on the market for over 2 years and the performance different is only 1-3% in favor of the Super.

because 5000 series is gonna be overpriced and i dont need it

Rumors are the 5080 will launch before the 5090, so a 5080 launch in January.

If you can wait, the 5080 should push 4080/S prices down even further or you can haggle a bit for a better price.

I am personally very picky and I want all my games to run at very high details with good framerate.

I have an overclocked RTX 4080 and I don't feel like I need to upgrade. It does everything I want and more.

Used GPUs are great.

I've had my 2080 Ti for 2 years, and it was used since release day (September 2018 according to Google).

i guess when the 50 series does come out its looking like the 5070Ti is gonna be cheaper than the 4080S, and maybe similar performance

Also, 4000 series used cards will be WAY cheaper once 5000 drops.

Yeah but we dont know when the 5070 Ti will release.

Do you buy a 4080 Super now so you can play and have fun for many months or wait maybe a year until a 5070Ti releases?

Remember that the 4070 released in April 12th, 2023 but the 4070 Ti released January 2024...

Again, we dont know anything about release dates yet. Only solid rumors.

At least wait until CES for the RTX 5000 announcements and go from there.

It takes time though, the price drop.

Ish. Depends on the market before launch, the performance uplift of the new gen, and the supply NV can make available.
During the GPU shortage, there was *no* drop on launch of new cards, but right now I bet that if it's a solid performance boost and NV has managed to buy enough fab time, it should drop hard

rumors say that, but let us see..

Knowing Nvidia I don't expect their new GPU to change the value of the older ones, kind of like Apple products

going used is fine.
just tested it or ask the seller if you can see it running in a PC.

If you do wait for the 50 series to come, what you may see depending on your area, is that people buy the 50 series and sell of their old cards and you will get some people just going from a 4090 to a 5080 as they want latest stuff and you will get some people who will be upgrading from an older gen.
so waiting may see the 2nd 4080 drop in price, but at the same time, depending on the price of the 50 series and all the take about tariffs, they may not change or even go up.

Nah, Nvidia are smartasses, they created a shortage of 4080/4090 since a few months so that new prices skyrocket to absurd levels, making used rise in price significantly as well

When the new cards launch they'll cost more than previous gen, and used prices won't drop

Cunning!
