Should I upgrade my CPU?

I mainly play Valorant at 1080p Low to get the highest possible FPS since it’s an esports title. However, I plan to move to 1440p in February 2025 because I want my other games to look good, and I tried this resolution at school when I played esports. Additionally, I was told that Hearts of Iron 4 runs better in the late game with more L3 cache, although I'm not sure about this. I don’t plan to upgrade my GPU until the 60xx or 70xx series come out.

The 5700X3D would increase your 1% and 0.1% lows making the games much smoother, especially in heavy shootout situations.

I am currently running an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X @ 4.2GHz, and I debating on upgrading to an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D would it be worth an upgrade?

I mainly play games like:

  • Valorant (1080p Low)
  • Hearts of Iron 4 (1080p Max)
  • Call of Duty (1080p Medium)

I plan to go 1440p around February 2025, my other hardware I am considering upgrading is my memory is considered slow with AMD standards (2400MHz), and I thinking of upgrading to 3600MHz.

I will be keeping my other hardware in this upgrade:

  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B450M Plus II
  • CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X53 240mm
  • PSU: Corsair RM650x (2018)
  • Case: Phanteks P300A Mesh

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X @ 4.2GHz

GPUNvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB

MB: ASUS TUF Gaming B450M Plus II

RAM: 4 x 8GB TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z

CASE: Phanteks P300A Mesh

CPU COOLER:  NZXT Kraken X53

PSU: Corsair RM650x (2018)

------------------------------------

Monitor: DELL S2522HG 1080p @ 240Hz

Keyboard: Logitech G512 Carbon

Mouse: Logitech G Pro Wireless (not superlight)

if your plan is to increase the load on your GPU in feb 2025, then there is little incentive to invest in upgrading the CPU.
The 5700x3d at most boosts fps by 20% when fully CPU bound. Which yes, is a lot, but you are already getting 300fps in Valorant with those settings?

That said, the RTX 5060 at least for being 8GB for the first half of 2025 (when the 12 GB version comes out is hard to say, be that 2025 Q3, Q4 or 2026 Q1) Is not an upgrade path I suggest. So watch AMD or be prepared to pay a lot for a 5070 12GB.

Im surprised you are playing any of those games at low. Turn valorant to high see how little it drops your fps.

simply tune your existing ram to 3200 or 3800 depending on the ic, you can send a thaiphoon burner pic to identify ic see if its crappy mfr thatll only do 3200 or something half decent that can do 3800
