3060TI and adding it to the case

Keep in mind, 2 gamers 1 system might sound fun in IRL. Its hell, thare are so many things that can go wrong. Also you only have 24 PCIE 5.0 lanes with the 9800X3D.

MSI MEG X670E ACE EATX AM5 Motherboard,  this has everything your looking for. if you need another option, Gigabyte X670E AORUS XTREME EATX AM5.

Arctic liquid freezer 3, the 9800X3D is a futuristic monster compared to the Intel CPUs. It sips power, you dont need a lot of cooling.

you need AIO, Mobo and Ram.

Budget (including currency):

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, Single Player AAA games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I have a triple monitor setup at 1440p 75hz. My buddy got a really good deal on 2 9800X3D processors, and has generously offered me one of them. I'm obviously excited, but also I haven't really kept up with PC building for a few years.

I currently have a 12700K Intel with a 3060TI, 64GB of DDR4, 750W PSU from Corsair, a 240mm AIO (which doesn't have AM5 mounting hardware, unfortunately). My buddy is also sending me his old 3700TI (he upgraded to 4090). I have a Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo and a MSI PRO Z-690A. I wasn't really budgeting for a PC upgrade, I did an upgrade in 2022 to my current setup (prior upgrade was in 2012, for reference) and I was planning on keeping essentially the same build for another 3-4 years before upgrade. My buddy has been super generous and I appreciate it, but now I'm looking for components to upgrade the rest of my system to use the new 9800x3D and 3070TI.

I'd like to reuse what I can, I really am happy with my current case. I think I'll at least need a new motherboard and AIO. I want a motherboard with maximum expandability, preferably 4 M.2 slots and 4+ PCI-E slots. I need video card, a USB expansion card, a 10 GBe network card, and I'm actually thinking of keeping my 3060TI and adding it to the case. I run unraid with my windows installation as a VM and video card passthrough, and I was thinking of running a second VM with the other video card for my kid to play on (other option is to keep old components and build a separate tower for my kid, but space is constrained for that). I run multiple other VMs as well for development and testing purposes (my day job is server admin and web developer).

I was planning on working on this build over Christmas holiday timeframe, but honestly I can be patient as my current setup isn't hurting me right now. I mostly play Flight Simulator and the occasional single-player AAA game (my current one is Star Wars Outlaws).

I know that's a whole lot of information and I've got a weird requirements list. I appreciate any advice you've got for me. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the reply. A few points:

I'm FULLY aware of the hellscape that is multiple gamers on a single tower. However, I've been doing it for a long time. It makes it really easy to run the kids system as a VM and back it up/restore it as well as manage it so they can't screw things up.

As for the USB PCIE, Unraid runs off a USB stick. I pass through my motherboard's usb controller to my windows VM (so that I can use the usb ports like a normal PC). So running the extra USB card means I have an interface that's not passed through.

I have a ML240L Coolermaster AIO that works perfectly well, do you know if there is an adapter for AM5 socket mounting? Then I wouldn't have to buy a new one and it's a totally fine cooler. Don't know if that's a thing.

Appreciate the feedback, I know I'm weird.

Personally,  I wouldn't use an AIO.

A 2 tower cooler like a peerless assassin and similar would do a fine job cooling your CPU. I wouldn't add more failure points.

adapter for AM5

You could probably ask coolermaster for the am5 mounts. They might give them to you, you'd have to ask.

the AIO is overkill I'm sure. I like how quiet it runs and how cool it keeps the system, and I already own it. That's a good point about asking coolermaster, can't hurt to reach out and ask. Thank you.

Actually, for any future people reading this thread...looks like you can use the AM4 mounting hardware, according to Corsair:

They only say it's for corsair's coolers. Hopefully CoolerMaster made it that way aswell.

Yes, just ask Coolermaster support, they will send you a kit.
