im getting this very odd noise from what i believe is the GPU. When im on the desktop i don't hear the noise. But when im in a game i can hear the noise. It does not seem to be a fan so only thing i can think of is its power?

Link to video of noise. i click back and forth between desktop and game. I don't play any high end games. WOW, LOL, CSGO, are really my go to games. Brand new rig, maybe 2 months old. Win 11, RX 6800, r5 7600, 32GB Ram.

How would i even go about getting an RMA for this type of issue? I don't experience any game lag, jitter or PC issues. Just the noise.

Also want to add, its not all the time. Sometimes it happens and sometimes its perfectly quiet.

Probably just coil whine I suggest putting a cap on your games to the maximum hz on your monitor or just turn on vsync. Other ways you could go about fixing the problem is undervolting the GPU but that could lead to instability issues if you didn't hit the silicon jackpot. Additionally coil whine is caused when there is a current vibrating within the GPU so playing games which would cause the GPU to use more power leads to coil whine my solution of capping fps is to reduce wasted power from outputing frames which you're monitor can't even take advantage of

Thanks. WOW already had it enabled and that's the game i notice it in the most. I enabled it in the AMD software. I'll try it out a bit and report back.

It's surprising that coil whine still bothers people. But yes, Weezel, it's just a type of coil whine. I remember using the silicone glue trick on the coils of my GPUs about ten years ago. Now, I keep my gaming PC in a separate room (usually the coldest one, since my HVAC doesn't work well in the sun room) and play remotely with Parsec or Moonlight. Honestly, I’d just recommend getting a good pair of headphones and not worrying about it. It's not a defect, just a normal thing with certain components.

Thanks, i've never had coil whine before. My last card was a RX580. The PC i replaced was almost 12 years old so these upgrades were huge for me.

I have headphones but i normally keep them low so i can hear if my kids wake up at night. They are still very young so i can hear the coil whine though them.

Since i've never heard this before i wasn't sure if it was a defect or not, or if i hooked up something incorrectly. I didn't know if the power from the PSU was an issue or something.

Thanks

Yeah you're good. That other poster's surprise was weird or a weird choice of phrasing anyway, though they speak truth: it just happens with some things.

Also, of course a noise bothers people. We even invented a name for it, and techniques for getting rid of it.
