Budget (including currency): Less than RM6500 (converted into USD, that's ~1500, but as we know prices don't follow currency conversion rates 1:1)

Country: Malaysia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: He'd like to be able to play whichever game that's recently been released and plans to do some video editing as well.

Other details: Making this list for a friend as they're not knowledgeable about computers. He'll me transitioning from gaming on a laptop, which means he needs a new monitor as well, and a case. I've got an incomplete PCPartsPicker list here https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2zhfrM with prices I added in based on what I found on local (Malaysian) online shopping sites from reputable sellers. The costs for all the parts I've selected amount to RM5,040, though this does not account for shipping, leaving less than a RM1,000 for a monitor, a case, and other peripherals. This would be alright if good quality 1440p monitors don't cost more exactly RM1,000 and a little more, so I'm hoping this community can chip in with a few thoughts on where I can downgrade.

I've also listed the parts I picked here with their prices in local currency for those not wanting to bother clicking on the link.

AMD Ryzen 7600X - RM950

Thermalright Peerless Assassin SE - RM140

MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI - RM750

Kingston Fury Beast 35GB (16x2) 6000Mhz DDR5 - RM500

Samsung 980 Pro 1TB - RM550

Asus Dual OC Radeon RX 7600 XT 16GB - RM1800

Cooler Master MWE Bronze 650W - RM350

Help appreciated 🙂

but... i don't understand... aren't you still under the max budget?

i would recommending upgrading some stuff instead then, like the mobo "gaming plus" boards usually have lots of issues for example.

AMD gpus are still not good for video editing also for example (yes they have the features needed, but software wise AMD just isn't there yet "the driver has stopped working, try again...")

edit: oh, basically you have $200 left for a monitor?

edit2: sorry i cant do anything with this part list, 5000 dollar for this? $750 for a motherboard?

can you just tell us what the limit is in $?

... yeah... also why not a 4060ti? better for video editing for sure, and hopefully cheaper than $1800 o.o

Yes, the main issue now is that if my friend were to go ahead and get these parts at these prices, he'd have practically nothing left for a good monitor and a decent-ish case.

I don't know to what level, what software either. Some use GPU acceleration which come in handy, some use what intel CPU's have and some only do generic CPU renders. Also not sure of NVIDIA pricing abroad but for example western Europe vs eastern Europe vary substantially, where in the west NVIDIA cards stick close to MSRP but in the east often goes for double, so AMD's the clear suggestion.

For our sake he's put in his local currency instead of USD pricing so we can see it but that's of very little actual use since we don't know stores to look at and compare stuff to.

yeah i tried to switch out the cpu for something cheaper, then it immediately showed me the prices in $... i left confused... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also 1800 for a midrange amd card, 750 for a low budget msi board... it would probably be better to import from us then, it'd cost only a fraction lol (i actually did that a lot recently,  and im in Germany... still saved about 50%)

Will heed your advice for the CPU, but the AK400 is around the same price as the Thermalright, give or take five or ten buckeroos.

The ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 seems to be the cheaper option compared to the Gigabyte Gaming Plus, but it does only have two RAM slots. I suppose beggars can't be choosers, I don't see why he'd need more than two slots anyway tbf.

As for M.2s, do you have any other brand or models that are more affordable with more or less the same performance?

Unfortunately a 4060Ti costs anywhere between 100 to 300 more depending on the manufacturer.

2 ram slots are actually better than 4 for AMD CPUs, so yes take that instead.

@Mark Kaine @venomtail

I understand the MSI A620M-E Pro Max throttles the CPU performance of >65W TDP CPUs and that you need to update the BIOS for a Ryzen 7 series processor, but for give or take RM200 cheaper, do you think it would be a better pick? Dont think so personally but wld like to know what you two think.

but then you maybe could just get a 65w cpu also? that's where you can really save a few bucks.
