I'm using a rather old LSI megaraid controller and it's just not happy on a modern consumer system.  I just moved the machine and there's probably a drive unplugged but I can't get into megaraid to at least silence the alarm.  This is something I've been putting off doing for a while but I want this machine to have functional redundant storage.  It's 8x4tb 3.5" sata hdd's.  I do have the capacity to back everything up and start fresh so I can run an HBA if that's best but it needs to be a windows 11 machine because it's a semi server semi gaming machine.

I finally found a solution but I don't have the time to figure out what it's talking about, I don't code and I'm not a power user.  I have so many other thing's to spend my time on and I don't want to deal with this.  I'm going to back up the array and axe this raid controller.

--> What do you recommend for a controller?  Machine is a 5800x MSI B560 16g ram

Have you tried using the software? That should let you manage the raid card even if you can't get into the webbios.

Do you want to keep the array? Most of the time you have to make a new array and wipe the drive.

Budget?

Something like a LSI 9361-8i is a reasonably new card and fairly cheap. If you want current gen a 9560-8i is a current gen card but not cheap and has a lot of features you won't use here.

I can't manage to get the megaraid to work with java, it's an LSI 9260-8i

I used to have this card in a poweredge and it gave me an environment to enter on boot, not so much anymore.  I'm thinking that I'll just move the whole array back into a poweredge and mark all of the drives and what port they go on.  At this point I honestly don't care if I lose the array because anything on there that is important is more than likely copied in multiple locations.

Also I've changed my path for server usage, my buddy is going to let me utilize his plex server so my drives are only going to be semi-cold storage.  Not going to have them burning 24/7

*I'm to old and lazy to learn new thing's, at least this stuff.  I found the exact solution for this problem and my PC ADHD get's me going down rabbit holes and I forget what I was trying to accomplish originally.  I just want thing's to work and I have access to the data currently it's just the stupid alarm.  Probably one drive unplugged because I put the back on the case and moved it to the other side of the desk.  I just can't be bothered.

*update: I forgot that this is a dell controller and needs the dell version of the megaraid software to work.  Problem solved
