Hello!

Was looking at my gf's pc and was wondering what version her BIOS was, as it was an old pre-built. When Googling the version it doesn't exist on the ASUS driver page. Nothing on Google even pops up about it. I am assuming it was a Beta Build that was later removed from the website?

Was wondering if it would still be safe to update the BIOS as it hasn't been updated since 2014, and the BIOS version doesn't exist.... I don't see why it would be a problem, but I thought I would ask before bricking her PC 🥸

Thanks!

Question is, why do you need to update that bios?

If the pc works alright and there's no important fix in the bios update, or an update for new cpu/memory support that you need, then it is not necessary to update the bios.

The ram config look a little weird...

ASUS's BIOS naming scheme generally has BIOS revisions that start with a 9 be some sort of special BIOS, either to try and fix a specific issue, add a specific requested feature (I.E. Resizeable BAR), or provided to media before a CPU is released. If this was a pre-built, it might have been made specifically for the pre-build manufacturer where they did something (added an optimization for the specific hardware config, changed the boot logo, etc.), so that's probably what happened.

It's possible, but their beta BIOSes tend to be named 00xx, so it's not likely.

You can boot up the system and you should be able to find the BIOS build date to figure out what the BIOS is actually based on. Is there a reason you want to update the BIOS though? If the system is working fine, it's not usually a good idea.

Agreed. If it works, let it be.

Weird because there's two modules from different vendors ? DDR3 was not as difficult as DDR4 and DDR5 for pairing.

She wanted to update to Windows 11 and wasn't able to because of the new security features. I will have a look again tomorrow if I could just do it, I did have a look but could of missed it in the BIOS.

Need to grab the latest bios off the pre-built's website not from Asus. I would assume this pre-built is an HP?

It is not an ASUS pre-built per-say, it was pre-built by a PC building vendor in Hungary, he wasn't very good in my opinion, however I didn't know my gf at the time 😕

It was pre-built by a PC building vendor in Hungary, probably just used what he could to put a PC togethe to sell to her. If only I knew her before she bought it 👽

So is there any brand name on the PC itself or is it just an generic box?

The US ASUS website shows only BIOS ver 3602 from 2018.  This predated the release of Windows 11 so it might not support it.

Workstation PC Specs: CPU - i7 8700K; MoBo - ASUS TUF Z390; RAM - 32GB Crucial; GPU - Gigabyte RTX 1660 Super; PSU - SeaSonic Focus GX 650; Storage - 500GB Samsung EVO, 3x2TB WD HDD;  Case - Fractal Designs R6; OS - Win10

Official support for Windows 11 requires, is a CPU starting with Intel 8th gen and newer or AMD Ryzen 2000 series and newer.

Probably should of Googled that... Thanks to everyone here! Still a mystery what this weird BIOS version is though 😕

A BIOS update won't help with this. Windows 11 only officially support 8th gen or newer, so even if you have the security features enabled (this can be done with the stock BIOS as well, they're just not on by default) you won't be able to do the in place update. If you want to get Windows 11, you'll need to bypass these security features somehow, likely with clean install and a tool like Rufus.
