pixel 7 pro or pixel 8a

I'm currently looking into gettting a new phone and i'm deciding between a refurbished pixel 7 pro and a new pixel 8a. I've been looking at a few reviews and currently i'm feeling more inclined towardes the pixel 7 pro but I'd like an outside opininon. So what do Y'all think I should do?

 

the pixel 7 pro has about 85% battery health and I'm most likely gonna go with a custom rom so software support isn't an issue

I got an 8a but my alternative consideration was the 8 and 8 Pro. At the end the 8a was a lot cheaper with a trade in of my old phone. At full price the 8a was far less interesting.

Obviously that's your choice to make.

 

Worth keeping in mind that for official OS releases,:

 

1) With the Pixel 8 and 8a, Google offer 7 years of OS and security updates, good to May 2031. Good for Android 21 if Google raises the version number once per year.

2) The 7 & 7 Pro will only get OS updates for the next 12 months (so probably Android 16 and no further), with security updates for 2 years beyond that through to October 2027.

 

On that basis it's a no brainer to go for the 8a - at least that's what I would do. Pictures on my 6a are pretty good and unless you need or want the extra lenses of the Pro models, or extra storage beyond that offered on the a series, I'd go for the new model. I'd also say that 85% battery life for a refurb is, to me, too low vs a new phone.
