I was asked to build a 4k editing rig for a friend and I'm wondering what i can do to keep the budget down. i know precious little about the demands on a editing rig. my friend is unsure of the program they will be using most. but they do know it will be for 45 min - 1 hr vlog style 4k video. any suggestions for parts as well as what the minimum requirements are would be very helpful

The budget is very tight for 4K editing. Savings can be achieved with a used Nvidia GPU, Alder Lake (12th gen) Intel or Zen 3 (5xxx) AMD CPU and DDR4 memory.

1000 CAD is light for a build, but you can do 4K editing on it, just takes time.

 

If that is his final budget and he wants to get into this as a hobby... that's his call.   Can he come up with a little more?

 

I am figuring he's going to use a CPU based rendering software, but there is a decent GPU in this as well...  Others can correct me if I made wrong assumptions.
