Hello, am planning to upgrade my current PC. I am considering buying an ryzen 5 5600, but am sceptic about my motherboard. It's an old asus prime a320m and am currently rocking with a ryzen 1200. Also GPU, like rx6600 or rx6650 but i don't know what is a better combo. I have seen on forums that i need to update BIOS for the CPU but i want to be 100% sure if it will work.

And my PSU is 500w but I think it will be fine.

I would like to hear some suggestions, I am planning to spend around 300-350 euros on this build and any advice will be very appreciated 😄

They're not fantastic boards (in terms of thermals/VRM), but it'll handle gaming on the 5600, don't worry about it.

Almost certain to need a BIOS update, unless you got it very late.

I'd choose based on the price, but it is worth noting that the 6650 XT power consumption (versus the 6600 non-XT) is a fair bit higher if your PSU is borderline or not a great model.

Everything @Tetras said but I run a 5600X3D and 6650XT on a 450w PSU, more than fine.  No need to get a new PSU for a 5600/6650 setup at all, unless it's a stupidly junk unit of course.

The Asus Prime A320 will be able to handle the Ryzen 5600, its the same TDP as the Ryzen 1200.

You need to update the BIOS to number 5862 or later.

Updating the BIOS to support the Ryzen 5600 will most likely make the Ryzen 1200 not work in this motherboard anymore.

Due to all the Ryzen AM4 CPU's ( Ryzen 1000-5000 ) The BIOS can only hold so much data, so updating the BIOS to support the Ryzen 5000 may loose Ryzen 1000 support.  This doesn't matter though, the 5600 will work 🙂

Yeah, the old ryzen will be on the shelf. If I have more money maybe i will invest in a better motherboard, but for now it will be oke.

Thanks!

For now it will definitely be okay 🙂  A 5600 is such a nice upgrade over the 1200, its so much faster!

Wait with updating the BIOS until you have the 5600 on hand since once the BIOS is updated you may not be able to use the PC with the Ryzen 1200.
