I just want to know if the compression part will actually clamp down

It'll go over the barb part with some finesse, but the part that puts pressure on it to keep it place may not clamp down.

What's the OD of the tubing?

Hey guys I have 7/16" x 5/8" fittings and I was wondering if 1/2" ID tubing would fit with compression?

The compression may not clamp down all the way and thus you may get leaks. This however depends on the thickness of the tube and by thickness i mean the thickness of the tube wall and not the diameter.
