How bad would this be?

I really want to mount my watercooled gpu on the low setting for the vertical mount as it looks better and doesn't obstruct the cpu tube runs. How much would this restrict the radiators ability to cool with 1 fan being covered. The mount does have slots cut into it that will allow some air to move. I can evan cut them open a lot more. It is a watercooled 4090.17260116204736021455896279229709.thumb.jpg.0d4df90a75798c0c36248845955f6aa2.jpg1726011682741415330757922384310.thumb.jpg.e9a71f780e7e2383b74fec8e7345b284.jpg

you want an inch ish  between the gpu and side if posable maybe a little less when at full tillte unless its water cooled then wont matter the 4090 will at lest have 2 pcie maybe even 3?

I don't think its practical to have a 4090 vertical unless its water cooled, its going to be very starved for air.

I mean why go to all the trouble of water cooling the CPU so it doesn't thermal throttle, then make your GPU thermal throttle?

That bottom fan is also likely to be noisy and ineffective as its almost completely blocked by the vertical mount.  In fact that vertical mount looks dumb all around, as it would catch any hit air being ejected downwards and hold it there.

I suggest that you make sure there is good clearance between the bottom, the side and your GC. When I used a vertical mount sitting on my PSU chamber, I felt lucky that it had an adjustable angle because my 6800XT was choking when it was parallel to the side with at least an inch of clearance,  which was fixed by turning it upwards. Unless you can undervolt your 4090 enough that choking it won't matter, be careful.  Honestly, I would've preferred a slot-mounted GC mount that could be angled and yet leave some slots available, but I didn't find one.

correct GC model

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

The card will be watercooled. My question is about the mount sitting on top of one of the fans for the radiator. The mount has vents in it. I'm questioning if it will degrade cooling a lot.

The gpu is watercooled. My question was about the mount sitting on top of 1 of the fans for the radiator and how much that would degrade cooling from the radiator. There's also vents all over the bottom of the mount.

Yes, I'd imagine its going to be very restrictive and make that fan work a lot harder.  It might not be an actual problem, but its less than ideal and may be a lot louder.

  • 2 weeks later...

its not i deal to cool the gpu then send its heat back at it...but how much i dont no... whats done is done.

i guess you could have it extinguishing thow you have reversed fans so...
