Is this normal?

XFX 7970, after idling for 6 hours. I would replace thermal compound, but I would probably destroy it some how. But this is FAR above normal temps right? My case airflow is fine. Cable management is tidy, 2 140mm front intakes, 2 120mm noctuas on an H100i for exhaust on the top, and a 120mm fan on the back exhaust.

check if its really running on Idle speeds. Also reboot and see what happens.

definitely not normal, if it always does that you'll need to take a look at the TIM. could you take a second screenshot but use the afterburner hardware monitor?

why would you break it? Just take out like 10 screws, clean it (only the gpu, not the memory and vrm things), put new thermal paste on, put screws back in, profit.

I would mess up every thing possible, I would lose a screw, scratch the PCB, break of some VRM, scratch the core, apply to much/too little thermal paste.

can you RMA the card? if so, go for it. If not, watch a few youtube videos about TIM replacement and have a little faith in yourself. It's not that hard

yep, all symptoms of bad TIM, which has been said here before. I wonder though, why does your fan tachometer read 143 RPM? bad reading or possibly a broken fan?

I can RMA it, I am going to wait until it burns out though, so they have to replace the entire card. Not just the thermal compound .

Because it isn't the black edition. It is also says DD

Also the coolers are loud, and despite what everyone else thinks I don't think they look that great. Don't like the chrome. It runs hot (obviously) although I can't speak for others experience.
