X-Plane bottlenecked somehow?

Just realised I didn't update my PCPartPicker list - I now have RAM that fast with similar timings but EXPO still refuses to apply. Kingston says that the timings are too tight?

But yeah, still only 16GB. Would getting a dedicated GPU help solve the problem?

Yes, it should do, as the VRAM from the GPU will be used instead of the system memory.

However thats quite pricey, with what you have now, lets see whats possible, you can manually set the timings yourself, which, if EXPO is unstable, thats recommended as it usually fixes any instability, if still unstable, loosen the timings slightly and repeat, whatever you get it to will still be faster than what you have now.

Also, the GPU is more pricey, but you already have RAM, so it very much depends on what route you want to go down if EXPO/timing jiggery doesnt get you your desired performance. One is more beneficial but more costly (GPU), and youll still have a RAM issue on some titles that just hog RAM. On the other hand, you wont get as much out of the RAM as its only an upgrade and youll still have your iGPU, but its a much cheaper option overall

I have this system: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/8MChCd

X-Plane runs at around 30FPS on med-high settings with around 20FPS 1% lows.

However, my iGPU is only utilized around 70% and the CPU around 15%.

What is stopping me getting higher frame counts?

Which version?

i mean a 8600g with slow ram like that wont be great in gaming especially when not using a gpu with it wnd just the igpu.

But it should still run ok at 1080p medium settings.

He's got CL40 RAM. On AM4 APU CL14-18 was already a big difference. With a dedicated GPU we can not a CL30-CL36 difference, would be more drastic for the APU. Still, doubt more than 20fps gain.

Nope. All around 15%.

X-Plane 11.

And it probably doesn't even reach those speeds - I've been having trouble getting EXPO to apply.

I reckon thats it then, as APUs use your systems RAM as VRAM, your bottleneck is probably your RAM speed. Especially with a 2x8gb kit and running very slow timings to begin with, nevermind the inability to enable EXPO

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Case Fans: Fractal Prisma (120 x6, 140 x3) + 2x40mm fans

So if I speed up my RAM the game will become less bottlenecked?

Possibly, and another possibility, whats your RAM usage during gaming?

Would you be able to send a HWinfo screenshot while midgame?

Both, something like this is the optimal speed and latency for the AM5 socket

Yes but keep in mind you are leaving A LOT of cpu performance on the table running your memory that slow.

I do recommend you try to put in the speed and timings manually instead of expo.

Also keep in mind that the 8600g has a much lower speed pcie link but should be ok for a fair few gpus
