Coil whine

So my PSU should be fine?

Your PSU should be fine, but you can always test with another PSU to see if it makes a difference.

Coil while can be caused by a lot of factors and is hard to correct. The only way to make it disappear is to ramp up the fans to 100% or play loud music so you can no longer hear it. Yup, that is masking, not solving the issue.

Another thing you can check is the source of the coil whine. Open your computer and load a game that causes coil whine. Now, ***BE CAREFULL*** to touch the metal frame (to prevent static shocks), and gently touch the GPU cooler at various spots, the backplate, the fan hubs (not the blades). Do not touch exposed electronics. If anything you touched changes the coil whine (in volume or in pitch), it may be a loose part and probably can be fixed by tightening a couple of screws or using a piece of thermal pad.

Coil whine is known to lessen with time. So, it may become less annoying if you are lucky.

Last thing to check. Micro Center has a good reputation with customer service. Do they consider coil whine a sufficient reason to return or exchange your refurbished GPU ?

Good luck.

Hi, I have a 7900xt (refurbished by microcenter) that I just bought and I noticed that it has a lot of coil whine. I used to have a Arc A770 and it also had coil whine. Could this be because of the PSU? The one I have is a Montech 750W Century G5 Gold, about half a year old.

Thanks for the info. I'll go back to Micro Center and see if they can exchange it.
