well do you have a 48v power supply

I do not, but wondering if there are any other use cases in which these can be wired to, not strictly computer related, i have a soldering kit and would just be a fun project to see what these fans can do

Well, anything that requires/related to cooling, air intake, exhausting, circulation

You still need to provide 48v to it, at the very least if you want them at their max capability.

And some kind of controller if you want to control their speed.

This can be either just a dumb potentiometer if they are running in DC mode, or PWM controller if they are running in PWM mode.

I did try plugging the fans into a 12V power supply, one smoked and smelled like gunpowder, another 2 did nothing, not sure what went wrong with the first, but i think even 12V is too little to move them

Yes, because you need at least 40V according to the datasheet.

I'd sell it... ~40W for a single fan. Heck my ceiling fans are 50-60W. 😆

Yeah, i got curious and pulled it apart, couldnt see anything super obvious, but possibly a blown resistor/capacitor

I have about 10, so could easily sell a handful, they go for quite a bit from what i can see, but i do really want to see how they run, mainly because jet engine sound go brr to be honest

Well the only way to do that is to provide 48v 😛

So either you buy a 48v power supply, or steal one (just kidding about the stealing, don't)

Could you get a bench power supply?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
