Which External GPU adapter would work better?

I just purchased a new laptop that supports thunderbolt4 and I was wondering which egpu adapter I should purchase.

First option is Thunderbolt4 directly to pcieX16, which just for the adapter, nothing else, may cost upwards of $130.

Second option is doing Thunderbolt4 to NVME m.2 to Oculink to pcieX16. which would bring down the cost of it all to around $50.

What I am concerned about is if the second option would even practically work, I was wondering if someone knows the answer to this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Unfortunately egpus are kinda bad if your running any half decent card. I mean if you already have the laptop and you need an egpu you can probably find a nice razor egpu enclosure on eBay considering your budget.
