In a strange after-college retro streak, I feel the need to update my whole pc gaming setup to be as universal as I can get it. The last thing I need to deal with: emulators.

Honestly, a lot of SNES, Gamecube, etc emulators make me a bit wary. There are so many variations available, that I'm not really sure where to start. First of all, I assume there are no legal issues that come about from using emulators? What about game ROMs for them?

So, barring any legal drawbacks, does anyone have a favorite emulator setup that they could share with me?

I'd like to be able to do SNES, N64, and Gamecube at the very least. Also, whats the best way to handle controllers? I can always try and find premade usb compatible classic controllers or even just solder my own, but I'd prefer to go with something easy.

Thanks in advance!!! :D

I don't know what the forum policy is on providing that info? I guess since linus is using emulators in the afterparty?

I've set up my HTPC as an emulator next to being a movie player. I just use 1 of my PS3 controllers with them. all working perfectly fine.

Emulators are legal but not using the official games with them. so talking about your favorite emulator should be fine.

i've got a nes (jNes), snes(snes9x), n64(project64), gamecube(dolphin) and wii(dolphin) emulator setup here. all working perfectly for the most part. theres just some compatibility issues with some games in the n64 emulator.

still want to setup a megadrive emulator some day, haven't found a good one for that yet.
