Are you far away from a power outlet the majority of the time

I am not sure since it is going to be my first year in university. But regardless the battery life, which one is stronger? Also, are we sure that omen 16 one have a much better battery life?

Omen 16 or Rog G16

Both of them are same price (1300CAD). I need a laptop for university (coding, 3d stuff) so, battery life is important for me. G16 has a better cpu and 32gb ram which makes me want to get that one but battery life doesnt seem very well

It depends what specific type of usage you are using this for, if you need to only code in class and video render or 3D render at home then you might be better off getting a decent desktop and a decent laptop rather than a mid range/ higher end laptop. Feel free to ignore everything else I just said but keep in mind that pretty much all laptops are 30-40 percent worse than it's desktop equivalent.

3d stuff

what kind?

HP OMEN has:

  • 1TB SSD
  • RTX 4060 8GB
  • 16GB RAM
  • better camera?

G16 has:

  • similar CPU, but slightly better multi-core capability (4 more E cores same amount of P cores)
  • 165Hz display (instead of 144Hz)
  • 32GB of RAM
  • RTX 4050 6GB
  • 512GB SSD

For what it's wort, these NTBs look quite similar, the ASUS G16 is slightly better CPU wise, mainly in multi core, it has more RAM, the GPU isn't anything terrible it's just comparatively bit worse than GTX 1080 with less VRAM, and the bulky nature probably means the thermals might be bit better?, the only downside really is half storage and whether you need better GPU which depends on you.

The OMEN has more storage, better camera it seems, the GPU is bit better instead bit better than GTX 1080 "relatively".

As far as battery life goes, you can tweak that with your usage and behaviour, both of the laptops can run on eco-mode and power plans and everything, and when you're finally gaming for example on a cable you can change it to max performance and once you're done you can swap it back to eco-mode.

The G16 might draw more power and use, due to more RAM, faster display and more CPU cores, on the flipside that wattage could be negligable, the base power of weaker GPU could help bit towards the opposite too.

current PC:

Ryzen 5 5600 |16GB DDR4 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti [further details on my profile]

PC configs I used before:

  1. Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050
  2. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050
  3. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz | 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti

Honestly I am not sure, they said we need a strong laptop but I do have a 3080/12600k desktop at home, just need something that I can work with at uni (slow systems drive me crazy tho, thats why I wanted something good)

I do like a better cpu and ram but do you think 4060 will give me much better performance? upgrading ssd is cheaper than ram if we also consider storage

really depends "what you're doing",

since both laptops will most likely handle more than enough when it comes to "basic" tasks.

Storage in laptops is sometimes soldered in and cannot be upgraded if you are looking at a nice laptop wait till the back to school sales on laptops for stores in your area like best buy, you can probably end up with a PC that is both of these PC's combined for around the same price or even cheaper.
