Budget (including currency): MAX $1000 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: web browsing, email, office programs

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): reusing keyboard, mouse, speakers, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda

So, I'm going to build a new PC for my mom.  Her current one is a +10yr old HP and the HDD started to fail.  Was able to backup everything thankfully, but I figure it's only a matter of time before something else starts to fail.  Going to use the existing PC for now and use a new Seagate BarraCuda 2TB HDD.  Was unable to clone or image the old drive to the new one unfortunately (used Macrium). I have looked around and got an initial build put together https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zbyZVW, monitor: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BS9T3FNB?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1, but figured it wouldn't hurt to get some feed back.  Shooting for another that can last another 10 years, so not worried spending a bit more on good quality parts.  I mean it's for Mom, so why not right?

I'd get a 4k monitor. The basic ones are pretty cheap now, and give a lot more screen real estate or sharpness depenign on scaling settings.

That cooler is way overkill, I'd go stock and save the money her.e

Id' probably go itx, why get a big box when your not using any slots here.

Probably forget that HDD, its slow, and if you want the space get a ssd these days. Those uses you list should be fine on a 1tb ssd you added.

asrock has their deskmini linup if you want something small but upgradable as in dropping in a new apu down the road

other wise there are mini pcs even smaller like some of those minisforum mini pcs that use laptop ryzens though you are usually limited to storage upgrades so probably no ram upgrades

Honestly, I'd grab her a NUC or something small like that.  All those will last many years for web browsing and email.  Hell, they do great for office work too.

Much cheaper and easier than building a machine, and having to tech support that shit too.

I wouldn't build my folks a computer, I order them a Microsoft Surface and move on.

+1 on a NUC or other micro desktop; There are always a ton of micros available all over Amazon and whatnot that can be had for below that price.

Something like that and a decent monitor would make a great setup, and it already comes with a keyboard, mouse, and the Pro version of Windows 11.
