Budget (including currency): approx. 3000-3500 EUR (it is assumed this will go down to 2500-3000 during Black Friday)

Country: Latvia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming (World of Warcraft, Age of Mythology Retold, Fallout games), streaming.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

No peripherals are needed. Intended to be run with 3 32inch 4k at least 165hz monitors (not included in the budget).

Sites I intend to use: 1a.lv, 220.lv. Sorry that they are only in Latvian and Russian (browser translators may help with it).

The question is - is the build compatible, should I choose any better pieces etc. It is to be assumed I would prefer to have a path to upgrade (which is why choosing AMD CPU) and Nvidia GPU (for streaming). I do not trust watercooling, so air cooling is what I am going for.

This is at the moment what I have on my list (would this be compatible?; linked to the list updated based on the suggestions - at the end of this post):

CPU - AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D https://www.1a.lv/p/procesors-amd-amd-ryzen-9-7900x3d-100-100000909wof-4-4ghz-am5-12mb/kxk4

GPU - Asus GeForce RTX 4080 Super, 16 GB, GDDR6X https://www.1a.lv/p/videokarte-asus-geforce-rtx-4080-super-16-gb-gddr6x/ogd1

Case - Corsair 4000D Airflow TG https://www.1a.lv/p/datora-korpuss-corsair-400d-airflow-tg-melna/9ix1

Coolers - Noctua NF-A12x15 PWN, 120 mm x 120 mm (question - how many needed? 6?) https://www.1a.lv/p/gaisa-dzesetajs-korpusam-noctua-nf-a12x15-pwn-120-mm-x-120-mm/8hw3

SSD - Samsung 980 PRO, M.2, 2 TB x2 https://www.1a.lv/p/cietais-disks-ssd-samsung-980-pro-m-2-2-tb/aop2

PSU - Gigabyte Aorus GP-AP1200PM 1200 W, 14 cm https://www.1a.lv/p/barosanas-bloks-gigabyte-aorus-gp-ap1200pm-1200-w-14-cm/d6ah

Motherboard - Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite AX https://www.1a.lv/p/matesplate-gigabyte-x670-aorus-elite-ax/h4s3

RAM - Corsair Vengeance CMK64GX5M2B6000C30, DDR5, 64 GB, 6000 MHz (that's a kit of 32x2) https://www.1a.lv/p/operativa-atmina-ram-corsair-vengeance-cmk64gx5m2b6000c30-ddr5-64-gb-6000-mhz/lzyt

Any better quality parts or ... that I should pick instead? Thanks in advance!

Look again near black friday. New stuff will come out and prices will fluctuate, in many cases price is what dictates which part makes most sense.

7800x3d for gaming, or 9800x3d if its out then.

Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Peerless assassin is plenty cooling for those, no need to spend 3x on a cooler that does the same thing.

You wont need an expensive motherboard or 64GB of ram for games.

You can buy 3pack of Phanteks t30 to be used as front fans if you want real premium there, Arctic p12 max pwm-pst 5-pack does pretty much the same with 30% the cost.

Don't need 7900X3D, just get 7800X3D.

Noctua overpriced. 50eur AK620 will do just fine.

For those games 4080 overkill. I don't see a reason to go past 4070TIS.

Expensive case you gotta buy extra fans for.

No, don't get 6 noctua fans but 25eur not offensive price, could be a decent invesetemnt,

Overpriced SSD. Competitors are like 100eur.

Not even latest PSU standart. Get one that's new.

Okay so....  The 7900x3d is the red-headed stepchild of the CPU Lineup.  It's shockingly bad for what it is.

The 7800x3d is better at gaming, and the 7900x is better at general productivity.  Reason being it only has 6 x3d cores.  (But it's also a bargain price anymore, so that's kinda awesome.)

The NH-D15 is a great cooler, but it's also waaaay more expensive than you need.  Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120SE is as good and 1/3 the price.    (But if you want noctua, get it.)

The rest of the stuff is fine, assuming the pricing is reasonable in your area.  (I can't look at that website.)

Hi!

This is also sort of build for futureproof, in terms of I expect with few upgrades in the future to run most of it for the next 8 years or so, so wanted to make sure RAM is good enough for that period of time.

So for CPU cooler you suggest https://www.1a.lv/p/gaisa-dzesetajs-procesoram-thermalright-phantom-spirit-120-se-110-mm-x-154-mm/qd2l?mtd=search-popup&pos=autocoplete&src=searchnode instead and https://www.1a.lv/p/gaisa-dzesetajs-korpusam-arctic-p12-120-mm-5-pack-120-mm-x-120-mm/6f49?mtd=search&pos=regular&src=searchnode for case coolers?

About CPU - understood, will use that should it be in stock at that time.

About coolers - understood.

About GPU - noted, though I would like with minor upgrades to run the system for the next 6-8 years, so need something futureproof.

Could you suggest a better SSD and PSU then? (in case of SSD, the requirement is 2x M.2 at least 2TB each).

About Noctua - I'll be honest, I picked that one there just cus I've heard Linus praise it so often 😄 But yeah, suggestion has been noted.

About CPU - noted, will take that instead if it will be in stock at that time.

With the edits the CPU cooler would be 53 EUR (TR Phantom Spirit), case coolers would be 26 EUR, case - 102 EUR, PSU - 367 EUR, MoBo 234 EUR, GPU 1184 EUR, CPU 439 EUR, SSD 179 EUR each, RAM - 247 EUR

After 8 years, buying twice will save you more money and get you better performance than spending it all now.

PSU, see the extra new cable that NVIDIA uses so you don't need a dongle adapter.

I have this SSD but 1TB.

Would also recommend you swap to this case. Already comes with all the fans you'd need.

Also, about the GPU, another worry of my is as I mentioned I plan to upgrade to 3 4k 165+hz monitors, I am unsure how well would 4070ti deal with that.

Depends on the game. Even a 4090 will struggle to play CP77 at 4K 60fps+ with Ultra Path Tracing DLSS3 Frame Generation enabled.

Witcher 3, RDR2, God of War, Plague's Tale, 4070TIS will do just fine.

Checked out the case; if I am going with the air cooling solution, would I not need 3 extra fans still? Or you think the 3 default ones will be enough? (I mean for the top of the case) And I'm seeing some people saying that this would be one of louder solutions, any idea if that is actually true or solution for that?

For a CPU as cool as a 7800X3D, the 3 included fans will be enough to circulate enough cool air.

Don't really understand the question. Loudness is subjective. If something is too loud just turn down the speed of the fans. Becomes a problem if its not staying cool enough with slowed fans. Sure, fans that cost a bit more might have nicer sounding sound frequencies at high speeds.

  • 1 month later...

Sorry, just now noticed - on AMD page it says that max memory speed is "2x1R DDR5-5200, 2x2R DDR5-5200, 4x1R DDR5-3600, 4x2R DDR5-3600" - could someone explain what does that mean? Does that mean the ram chosen would be incompatible with the CPU? Would I be better off choosing a different (slower) RAM (like https://www.1a.lv/p/operativa-atmina-ram-kingston-fury-beast-rgb-ddr5-64-gb-5200-mhz/ipqw?cat=2vj)?

Also, regarding PSU, is there a reason I should not take the 1500W version given that it is just 6 euros extra?
