Hi, i've built this pc and it's been like 2 years now. I've had some parts updated every so often. The specs are now RTX 4070Ti Super + i9 13900KF, 1000W psu by corsair, 48gbs ram, has a 3 fan aio cooler by corsair also with extra fans. All the temps and usage seem to be fine and low, all software is updated, drivers/bios etc. The issue is specifically overclocking. Initially i'd have enabled XPM with my ddr4 ram at 3200mhz, with intel turbo + interl turbo 3.0 and enhance turbo on. This would allow me to generate 500+fps easily on valorant since i have a alienware 500hz monitor. Recently for the past year its been causing issues of vgk.sys bsods, i had to put intel turbo 3.0 only on and the rest disabled. Can someone help me achieve the OC to get 500fps so i can take advantage of it. seems like  a waste not doing that and not getting the best with what i got..image.png.781dc40645c98dbe6fd21efa0583a4fa.pngimage.png.3335b368e273578ec97e0b11a57f6380.png

IIRC, vgk.sys is Vanguard (valorant's anti-cheat engine) file

edit: (Yep)

Anyway, idk if it's related or not (the features you usually use and what I'm about to say below), or whether you've heard it yet or not

But recent news (actually, not so recent, it's been awhile) says (some?) Intel 13th and 14th gen is having instability issue due, so... you may want to ease up on it.

Can they correct this with software or is this a hardware related issue?

Intel hasn't said anything about this issue. It's probably a combination of the two, where it's a hardware level issue that can be mitigated with software, likely by dropping clock speeds. Right now though it's just wait and see if Intel will release a "fix"

That's pretty disappointing considered  i paid alot of money to get a high end cpu to have it run at something a mid range cpu can run at..

The question is if i do these steps on valorant will it help me get 500fps?

Gave that link simply as a "Yea I knew my memory wasn't playing trick, Vgk.sys really is Vanguard's vital file"

Whether or not doing the steps in that link solves your BSODs,  idk. I don't play any game with Vanguard.

As to 500fps, if you achieved it by basically OCing, turning OC down/off will reduce it obviously.

why do you need 500fps?

current PC:

Ryzen 5 5600 |16GB DDR4 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1080 ti [further details on my profile]

PC configs I used before:

  1. Pentium G4500 | 4GB/8GB DDR4 2133Mhz | H110 | GTX 1050
  2. Ryzen 3 1200 3,5Ghz / OC:4Ghz | 8GB DDR4 2133Mhz / 16GB 3200Mhz | B450 | GTX 1050

likely not fixable especially because these chips seem to degrade much faster than they should, especially when overclocks are used. (but even without overclocking, they'll likely degrade very fast)

many anti cheats actually don't like overclocks at all, because they see it as something out of spec and may crash or bug out otherwise because of that, so that's rather unlikely because these steps tell you to update your BIOS and use "intel default" settings,  meaning no overclocks whatsoever.

13900k was released two years ago? I doubt intel is going to do anything,  i also doubt they're in a position to do anything even if they wanted, also after 2 years degradation becomes an actual issue (not a theory, a fact, many server chips are already failing even though they have been underclocked, etc)

From what I know, motherboard manufacturers (pretty sure it was MSI who I saw the article about, but I'll need to double check) are threatening to drop support for Arrow Lake if they don't figure this out, so they might now have a choice of whether to address this or not.

EDIT: Alright, my memory seemed to overdramatize what I had read. This was the article I found that I think I read (I could've sworn it was on either VideoCards or TechPowerUp instead, but this was the first one I found where the text looked familiar).

The motherboard manufacturers are at least worried. They might not be threatening to drop ARL support (at least openly), but Intel should at least know the sale issues that will happen if they don't fix the CPUs.

Still if you think about it, you'd probably want to fix your current product first - if it's at all possible, are they even still making 13th gen chips... honestly no idea, but I'm wondering why, if so lol.

When's 15th gen (next disaster in the making)?

I get that, though odds are the fix for 13th gen will be the same as the fix for 14th gen, so they might as well just roll them both out at once. The 13900K is just the same CPU as the 14900K after all.

Current rumor is an announcement in September, release in October.

I talked to intel today, its a mixture of both and they're planning to address the issue by august "hopefully" so we'll see. They're working with manufacturers to also fix this via bios. I've never OC'd but i've use intel turbo tech to achieve my 500 i dont need anything past it

you see the problem isn't just OC, but also Intel CPUs on the 13/14 gen degrading, while left on stock settings
