I'm upgrading my PC and a bunch of other things in about a month and I feel my 5500 XT just isn't cutting it on my PCIe 3.0 board. Since there aren't really any good PCIe 3.0 AMD GPUs I've decided to go for a 20 series Nvidia GPU I've narrowed it down to either the 2060 super or the 2070 super, I'm looking to buy used on eBay and my price range is about 230-250 Canadian. Both GPUs fall into this price range. Power and temps are neither a problem since I went kind of overkill with other parts. Please tell me any other alternative GPUs or just tell me which of these two I should choose. Thanks.

PCIe is backwards and forwards compatible. There's no need to stick to a PCIe 3.0 GPU, you can buy a PCIe 4.0 one.

Just make sure to stay away from GPU's that only have 4 lanes (e.g. RX 6400/RX 6500 XT), since they "require" PCIe 4.0 to get good performance. GPUs with 8 lanes are generally fine performance wise (e.g. RX 6600 [XT]), GPUs with 16 lanes should run without any form of performance loss.

yeah if price isn't problem then 6700 XT or 6750 XT from used market could be good if there are any, or RTX 4060 or RTX 3060 ti,

How do you overkill with other parts and end up with a PCIe 3.0 board? Are you sure it's PCIe 3.0 and not 4.0?

I knew that the lower end ones did that, I just got a really good deal on it. I was thinking about getting the 6600 since it was a card in my price range but I think a used 2060 super or 2070 super would get me a lot closer to 1080p max 120+ fps goal.

I already put a price range. The other parts are overkill because I took half the parts from a Lenovo workstation like the cpu, ram and motherboard. The overkill parts were a 750w power supply and a case that can fit everything except maybe a 4090.

I would go for a 3060 but used 2070 supers go for around 230 CAD on eBay and would still likely beat out a 3060.

of course 2070 Super beats 3060

if you don't mind waiting till you get a bit of cash then the 6700xt would be perfect especially if you can get it for about 260 USD. Another good option is the 6600 at around 200 usd new and little lower than that used. if you're looking at rtx 20 series, you should really also take a look at rdna 1, specifically the 5700xt. usually see it on ebay for around 150 - 200 usd. i've got a 5600xt running in pcie 3.0 and i don't really see much of a hit. it should be alright.

230 CAD is about 170 USD personally i think this is quite the deal. I was thinking of going AMD but there would be little to none resale value by the time I upgrade again. Prices for the 20 series rtx GPUs should also go down soon because of the 50 series being released at around the time I think I will be upgrading my setup.

from what i've seen nvidia prices tend to be sticky even on the used market but they do seem to have good resale value. in terms of performance though, i think a used amd card will almost always be better value at that price range.

A 6600 is roughly the same performance as a 2060 super.

What about a used 6700XT , that is a substantially higher performance card than either of those.

Compared to a 2070 super the 6700 XT isn't very good for used price to performance. If I were to to that I would be paying 30 percent more more 5-10 percent more performance.

First of all the 6700XT is about 15-20% faster but more importantly 9ts not limited by vram which the 2070 super is.

Pcie x 16 3.0 will have a negligible difference , it's a few percent on a 4090 so it's nothing on a 6700XT.
