So I was thinking of getting a soundcard for my computer.

For now I have found 3 potential soundcards that I like.

From highest to lowest price, they are:

  1. Asus Xonar D2X
  2. Asus ROG Xonar Phoebux Solo
  3. Asus Xonar DX

Is the ROG one any good, as I was leaning towards that one.

Is there any point in getting a soundcard if I don't have a proper headset? Currently I have a Steelseries Siberia Elite, but I was thinking of maybe getting a HyperX Cloud.

Case: Fractal Design R4  Motherboard: Asus Z87-Plus  Processor: Intel i7 4770K  GPU: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X  RAM: Corsair Vengenace Pro 16GB  PSU: Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 750W  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 500GB   Monitor(s): LG 24GM77  Keyboard: Logitech G410  Mouse: Zowie EC1-A  Mousepad: Puretrak Talent White Ed.  Headset: Kingston HyperX Cloud II

No, and if/when you get that thing, no.

Is there any point in getting a soundcard

In some niche situations, yes, typically no.

Sound cards in general far saturate and outsell their worth.

You would be wasting your money. Your headphones shouldn't need anything more than an onboard and if you did an external solution would be better anyway.

Ok, guess I won't be getting one for the time being.

Divert the money to get a better headphone. With the budget of the D2x ($200+ on amazon), you'll get a nice sounding headphone....

It's a bit harder to get those when you live in my country.

I have the Xonar Phoebus ROG Set its great but you won't gain anything with that headset paired to this.   In my case I use it with a Sennheiser PC 350 SE.   I needed the cards better AMP to power my cans for best audio quality.  also didn't want external AMP/DAC sitting on my already crowded desk.  I got it cheaper then most of the External solutions recommended to me.

sup norwegian bro

Budget around 200$ (1200 nok?) I assume. What is your preference, open or closed headphones?

Closed I guess. Haven't really tried open ones, but I like having sound isolation.

Well as most headsets are pretty bad, take a look at Beyerdynamic DT770 series (I actually have a rebate code on evenstadmusikk), those may need an amp though, if you're getting the 250 ohm version, that is. Shure SRH440 are good headphones, and even better if you add the 840 pads, pro tip, those are cheap over at evenstadmusikk and netonnet.no, http://evenstadmusikk.no/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=10469 and http://www.netonnet.no/art/lyd-og-hodetelefoner/hodetelefoner/lukkede/shure-srh440/167567.3198/

uuuhm.. can't really think of more headphones I want to recommend right now.. for mics: the Blue Snowball is at the apple store for almost 600 NOK, but ONLY in the apple store. You can get the Zalman clip on, which should work just fine, http://cdon.no/elektronikk/zalman/zalman-zm-mic1-microphone-headphone-microphone-p21220744?utm_source=prisjakt&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=Zalman+ZM-MIC1+microphone+-+headphone+microphone&utm_content=21220744&utm_campaign=prisjakt_no_Headset+-+Fullsize but damn those cdon links are LOOONG.. also getting a mod mic from the US works, got my 2.3 + 8 extra base clasps for like 400 or something, pretty good.

EDIT: the beyer's are a bit over, but they're pretty good. I actually have a rebate code thing for evenstadmusikk..

I'll take a look at those Beyerdynamic ones. They look really old school though :P

Are the Beyerdynamic ones good for electronic music? I primarily listen to electro house, house, etc. But I also like classical music, some pop, and rock etc.

I suggest you purchase the CHC Silverado's on amazon. They are currently $50 but retail $200. That kind of a discount is a steal if you ask me. In the future look into getting a dac and not a sound card. Sound cards do almost nothing except take your money.

He's in Norway xD

DGX is a good cheap card and makes volume loud with the amp, idk about the non amped ones

All sound cards have an amp on it.

well without putting the setting on the xonar drivers to the higher volume options its pretty low volume, like onboard

im assuming the d2x is low volume like onboard because it doesnt advertise 150ohm amp

Still has an amp. If it doesn't have an amp, you won't be able to get it to a good volume on any headphone.

they are supposed to be very good for electronic music, pretty good bass, but not the best mids, so guitars and vocals aren't the most upfront in your face things, but they're still decent.

the D2X advertises a 600 ohm amp, doesn't it? it's a fairly high-powered amp, but the 10 ohm output impedance makes it a bit sketchy, it wrecked my first J33's, not even kidding.
