Hi guys 馃檪

A few months ago I buillt a PC for my dad specs are:

MAG B760 TOMAHAWK WIFI

i5 processor 14500

TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

聽Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Since building it, there has been random crashes, maybe once or twice a month at the start. Now it had starting to happen once a week if not more.

What I have done to try and resolve it is:

  • Update bios
  • turn off xmp and restore bios to defaults, ram was currently running at 5800mhz
  • reseaat memory and cpu
  • run mem test on memory all clear
  • windows fully up to date with drivers etc
  • plug a new psu in it (currently troubleshooting step)

I am not sure what is going on, the crashing is random and no bsod just the pc locks up and then crashes, the event log is pretty hopeless just says the pc unecptcly shut down, so cleary it is crashing fast enough to where windows can't even generate a bsod message.

I am kinda stuck on what the issue is currently I am thinking potentially psu mobo or cpu. I will know soon if it is the psu as I am trying a different one currently.

thanks heaps

Thanks

ok my main suspects are ram and psu...

already trying out a new psu, so....

if its still happening get different ram, make sure its on motherboard QVL (regardless of if your current ram is or isn't)聽

I had the exact same problem with a 980 pro, turns out it had some problem drawing power from the nvme slot. Here's the funny part: The drive worked fine on a different machine, and the psu worked fine on a different machine. But the SSD and PSU just wouldn't work together no matter what聽馃槀聽Samsung is weird. I swapped the psu anyway as I was gonna upgrade, but I'm guessing it wasn't the psu's fault. So just double check that it's not because of ur ssd.

It has been crashing since building it. It has become more frequent though.

The CPU is running with one power slot. Other is empty, the psu only has 1 six pin power. I am thinking that could be the issue.

All drivers etc are up to date, and reseated ram cpu, power connectors etc.

The whole system just freezes then just restarts

Tried the a different psu and it still crashes clearly not psu, the cpu is running on 1 six pin I was thinking possible issue?

not psu as it still crashed with another one i put in it. I was thinking maybe it is the ssd pulling too much power from the 6 pin cpu mobo connector? Not sure

No, the motherboard only need 1 of the power connectors for the CPU.聽 The other is for serious overclocking.

Can you try a different SSD or move it to another slot to test?

I found in the psu box a 4 pin cpu connector which I have put in, maybe it may solve it not sure. I will try a differerent ssd next.

Not yet, I will as my next step, but currently there has been no crashing from Monday. I will keep an eye on it but maybe the 4 pin extra power did the trick? Could it be the cpu is more power hungry or the ssd is?聽

Turns out it didn't fix the issue it crashed again but just a black screen and required a full hold the powe button to turn off. I will now try and use different slots and test one stick of ram at a time.

Sadly it didn't work, I hoped it would but it crashed again, trying the ram next, otherwise it seems to be either ssd or mobo.
