If your budget allows for a 7800X3D and you've paired with an equally powerful GPU then go for it. Looking at the IPC of Zen 5 it will likely be on par with the 9700X in gaming.

Otherwise just pick the best CPU that fits your budget. The 7600 offers 80% of the gaming performance of the 7800X3D at 1080p at 55% of the price and this gap narrows as you go up in resolution. You could then perhaps pick up a "9800X3D" when it goes on sale in the future for an upgrade.

Use case will basically just be gaming and school work

If its 1440p and you dont play insane games like city skyline or try to break any world records a 7700x will do just fine. If you want heavy games or 4k or try to do difficult tasks like machine learning 3d modeling etc etc maybe the 7800x3d is a good investment. Yes the 7800x3d outperforms but imo its better to have smt suited to your needs rather than smt that will vastly outclass them

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

Ah alright thanks I was thinking of going with a 7900xt that would pair well with a 7700x right?

Well I wanted to get a 7900xt that would pair perfectly with a 7700x right?

It should be alright with minimal bottleneck if any noticible amount.

I don't see a reason to not get the 7800x3D if you're willing to spend more. I'd argue that a 7800x3D and 7900 GRE will fair better in most games than a 7700x and 7900 XT, if you had to choose.

There is no perfect pairings there are more optimal ones. Get a gpu that you want and afford for your needs and then see for a cpu that wont hold you back, TL DR its better for a gpu to be the bottleneck rather than a cpu one. But if you are willing to spend the extra buck for the 7800x3d if you want to save a buck you wont lose much.

I see I’ve looked at a calculator and the there is basically no bottleneck with the cpu and gpu and I’ve looked at the performance of the two cpus and it’s not that large of a difference the main factor for me is price cause the 7700x is sub 300 while the x3d is 370 with taxes

You'll have to define what parts you already have and what your budget is then for anyone to give a definitive recommendation.

I have a Seasonic focus gx 1000 a fractal north a msi pro b650 s motherboard a be quiet pure rock 2 and that’s it I’m going to be buying my ram which is g skill flare x5 ddr5 6000mt cl 30 and my cpu which is either a 7700x or a 7800x3d with my gpu coming later as for right now I have a 3070

I would just take the 7800x3D and figure out which GPU later if you already have a 3070.

I wouldn't bother determining that until after you've built the rest of the system, if you already have a 3070 and are upgrading from an older platform, then I wouldn't worry about upgrading the GPU yet.

Upgrading to a 7800x3D from literally anything, even a 7700x, is a significant improvement to framerate stability which might provides an acceptable performance upgrade even with a 3070.

no no no no no stay away from those. bottleneck calculators are a scam, they sell you snake oil. if you want a good idea search the cpu gpu combo on yt and look at game benchmarks never trust those bottleneck calculators

also note that in some countries the difference between 7700x and 7800x3D in price is quite thin sometimes
