So i am building a computer tomorrow. is it ok to build on carpet if i have a anti static wrist strap ? thanks 
 

also i dont live in a high static area

Do it on a table or a work surface and there is no need for wrist straps.

A lot of times I build on a rug with no kind of anti static anything. Just touch the case a lot and you're good.

You're fine. I would still touch the case a lot though.

 

Yes, having something non-carpet would be slightly better.

I built my pc on carpet, doesn't mean you should do it.  Get yourself a plank of wood or lay down your case box on the floor and stand on that, dont wear socks and roll up your sleeves.

Yeah but its not worth being annoyed with it dangling on your wrist.

I personally would to the build on tile or wood. Can you not do it in the kitchen?

Not that annoying, just get a detachable one.

What's more annoying is breaking your new part by static and then having to RMA it.
