Im planning to buy my first dslr very soon and my eyes are set on the 60d.

The budget for the lens is $500. I need a zoom lens or a walk around lens for taking pictures. I also need image stabilization for video.

I dont need anymore than 150mm, or I dont think.

Ill be using it for taking pictures for a vacation this summer and also small projects for school.

Any help would be good. Thanks.

Is USM important? The 18-135 doesn't have it but the 24-135 does so should I get that and sacrifice wideness? And also, is the 50mm f/1.4 worth the more expensive price tag than the f/1.8?

You cannot afford to sacrifice wideness, having an Ultra-sonic motor is not too much of an importance. Get the 50mm f/1.4 if you have the money, for the focusing meter.

I find the 50mm f/1.4 is worth the extra price tag. I have one myself and I love using it. That being said, with a crop sensor you really have to back up with any shots you're taking because the 50mm turns out to be around 75mm with the crop factor. Not great for indoor shots. I'd recommend going with the Canon 35mm f/2 lens which translates to 52mm after the crop factor. Unless you plan on getting a full frame camera in the future, which I am.
