Hi.

I am currently playing on 13" macbook pro late 2013, which works OK, but is far from optimal gaming experience :) My budget is 13000 SEK, which is a lot of US or Canadian dollars, however prices in here in Sweden are much higher on most of stuff due to the taxes and import stuff. Therefore I would consider my budget to around 1400 USD.

As for usage, I am planing doing single screen 1080p gaming for the next 1-2 years. Later on I might be using this machine as a steambox connected to TV.

Here is what I come so far with:

CPU:  Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($223.98 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler:  Corsair H75 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($78.43 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard:  MSI Z97I Gaming AC Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($189.99 @ Amazon)
Storage:  Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($104.99 @ Amazon)
Storage:  Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($104.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card:  Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 2GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($239.99 @ NCIX US)
Case:  BitFenix Prodigy (White) Mini ITX Tower Case  ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Operating System:  Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit)  ($99.98 @ OutletPC)
Fan Controller:  BitFenix Recon (White) Fan Controller  ($39.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1272.30
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Some explanations:

  • Small apartment, no space for big chasi or desk, Gaming mostly on couch or bed.
  • I really hate to reinstall computer, therefore I took 2 cheapest 240GB ssd, which should go in raid 1 and willing to swap one every year or so. However I am open to any other suggestions in this.
  • Due to the 1080p single monitor restriction, I am thinking the GTX 760 should be enough and better to upgrade in year and half 2 years for next generations than to pay double for 780 right now.
  • Single 8GB ram seems enough for now with possibility to upgrade to 16GB in the future.
  • Overclocking curious, however no real experience yet.

Please comment and correct my assumntions. :) Also what are your suggestions on 1080p monitor? I was thinking something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-927M9-IPS-LED-27-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B009H0XQPA/

Monitor budget is on top of that somewhere in that 250-300 area + what I save from the build.

Thanks.

Have a nice day.

Is the monitor part of this cost? By the way, you can get 290xs for like $300 on eBay like I did.

I recommend this monitor

Hi TheNinjaNextDor.

Thanks for your build suggestion, I have few questions:

- why air cooler instead of water closed loop?

- is a bronze 600W PSU enough to power 4670K with GTX 780?

I like the fractal design case, I will definitely think about it. Regarding the screen, very good suggestion as well, we are using those in our office, however I feel I need something bigger to be able to see there from sofa, so preferably with lower PPI ratio (like 27" 1080p monitor).

I went with an air cooler because it's quieter. Also, @Anthony10 can tell you the H75 isn't very good. 600w is enough. My 780 and 3770K pull 400w OCed.

Nice. I love that monitor, the reason I didn't go 27in was that stuff can get blocky with such a low PPI. If you're far away you're ok.
