[Build-Help needed] Gaming Setup (rig+peripherals) max. 2200€/3000$

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

First of all: Thanks to all of you guys for your super fast and detailed feedback. I'll definitely consider going for the 1440p monitor solution, any suggestions for a good one considering the speed aspect?? Which link should one use (HDMI, ..)? Also @WoodenMarker you said that the cooler won't fit with the RAM. Are you able to tell me which cooler and RAM to use? Because I am a bit afraid to try the Liquid solution that @Bluwire pointed out. Further more I will abandon the bluray drive thing.

Pretty much any low profile ram will be fine. I'd also just get a different cooler in general that's less bulky and quieter.

Hey there guys,

as sombody who likes gaming but always bought systems instead of building them I really need your help! I have NO IDEA if my configuration could work, what could be optimized and what peripherals I should buy. Also: Do I need more 140mm fans since the case only has to but supports up to seven?

1. Budget & Location
I live in Germany and would be able to spend 2200€ (=> 3000$) for the rig + mouse + keyboard + monitor

2. Aim
My aim ist definitely gaming, especially modern shooters like BF4, ARMA III, Wolfenstein The New Order and so on. The setup will also be used an Workstation for studying, so maybe two monitors would be nice.

3. Monitors
I plan on running of course at least one 24" monitor, maybe two if the price is still in the limit.

4. Peripherals
I need one or two nice and fast 24" monitors; of course Full-HD. My setup will have a GTX 780 and I do not know which link to use, because it only has one HDMI slot. I also need a new mouse and keyboard, maybe this really cheap mechanical one produced by Tt for around 80$. By the way: I am quite a huge guy, so my hand is also big, that's why I do not use small mice.

5. Why are you upgrading?
I still have a 2500$ gaming laptop, but it is really impracticable for studying. So now I want to sell it and split things up: Gaming at home on a nice rig and in university I'll use a 13,3" Ultrabook.

So now I am asking you guys to optimize my setup and pick monitor(s), mouse and keyboard. You can change EVERYTHING!!!

Here is the configuration I picked so far:        http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/3QKGC

-snip-

GTX 780 can handle 1440p on high settings most of the time. Are you sure you want Full HD (1080p), becaue 1440p will be worth it.

No point getting the 4770k over the 4670k just for gaming.

The Dark Rock Pro 2 wouldn't fit over the tall ram. The blue motherboard and red ram is just a bit awkward in the first place.

...is the bluray drive really necessary?

Why the extension cable?

Extra fans aren't necessary but could help.

Little point going just 1080p with a 780. I'd shoot for a 1440p display.

If purely gaming, I would recommend a 4670k but, since you have the money, I say get the 4770k for gaming/workstation. The monitors in the build below are extremely fast and can be upgraded with G-Sync down the line. They're only 1080p, however, so you can go the 1440p route if you'd like. You still have money left over so you can get a decent mechanical keyboard. Although, I noticed you didn't mention an OS. Will you be needing one? 'Cause that's around $100 USD.

P.S.: The extention cable has to do with quite complicated network setups and e.g. aluminium plates in my intermediate ceiling
