So instead of pressing buttons, how about switching between a DP input source and a HDMI source right from windows in the respective PC's?

Some monitors do have support for this (I know Gigabyte monitors have this, at least their higher end ones with KVMs), though it's a feature your monitor needs explicit support for, not something that any old panel supports AFAIK
