AMD FRTC
AMD FRTC (Frame Rate Target Control), an embedded feature in the AMD Radeon Driver Software, allows you to lock frame rate in a game. It is very easy to limit FPS via AMD FRTC. You just need to open AMD Radeon Settings > click Global Settings > enable Frame Rate Target Control > Set the FPS limit.

Hi

I get in games 500+ fps and the gpu 6800 xt is very hot and fans are very loud. I found in RDR2 that if I enabled vsync I can set max to 120 fps for example but I tried now with star wars game but enable vsync has no effect . Card temp exceed 100c what to do to limit the fps ? btw while in game I launched Adrenaline with alt+R and found option called limit fps so I try it but it also has no effect . I am trying now to find it again but I can not (in or out of the game) I use the settings search box.

Some games have an option to limit the frame rates, this is the best way.

You can use MSI Afterburner and Rivatuner to limit your frame rates overall.

AMD has the option too in the driver software, but if you set it global and have a game profile without the limit the game will not be limited unless you either edit the profile or delete the profile.

Most reliable way. Some games don't even limit fps correctly for me I set it to 60 and its at 67??? I use riva statistic tuner and it locks correctly.

Probably some dude on the internet

Try reinstalling graphics drivers?

Just want to let you know that Radeon Chill is another great alternative to AMD FRTC. With Radeon Chill you can set specific minimum and maximum target framerates and let the GPU dynamically adjust its workloads across them for, what seems to me, a much more fluid experience with less input lag. I would personally use Radeon Chill over AMD FRTC unless you need to lock your fps to match a specific refresh rate target for your monitor.

Here is a quote from an AMD developer talking about it:

Quote

1) Yes, I was talking about the case where MinFPS == MaxFPS 2) Chill (as a framerate limiter) and FRTC achieve slightly different goals: a) FRTC (and similar technologies) makes sure that the frames ARE DISPLAYED at regular pace, but this increases the input lag somewhat. b) Chill (as a framerate limiter) makes sure that the frames are SUBMITTED TO THE GPU at a regular pace. This does not ensure a steady output framerate (there will be some fluctuation), but this does insure a minimal lag. So this is perfect for variable-framerate displays (FreeSync) 3) Yes, it lowers input lag. In general, in a regular gameplay you have 2 situations: a) The game is CPU-limited (CPU-bound) - in this case the input lag is minimal b) The game is GPU-bound - in this case the input lag is maximal (depending on the game). So, basically, if your system can render at 150fps, and you limit it to 140fps - you ensure that it is effectively CPU-bound (if using Chill) and effectively GPU-bound (if using FRTC and similar technologies). 4) You would basically prefer to use FRTC if you have a fixed-framerate monitor, and you want to submit frames at the refresh rate, but in this case it becomes the same as VSync....... 5) Or, alternatively, you can use Chill as it was intended - with variable framerate - and that works great, especially with a FreeSync display ;)

I found it in the comment section of this video:

You can enable it in your AMD Adrenalin software from GAMES > GRAPHICS (or GAMEs and choose a specific game to apply it to) > RADEON CHILL

really weird tho, never had this issue on nvidia. only thing coming close was a game not having vsync at all, set it in nvcp and smooth 60fps sailing since.

Im on intel but it's very rare. Like back when fnf was popular. Fnf did it on psych engine.
