GPU for 3th/4th Gen Intel CPU

testcy

Is a 3th/4th Gen i3/i5 capable to handle a modern GPU for gaming? Any recommendations for such GPU?

Is it compatible? Yes, any GPU with a PCIe slot would be compatible provided there are drivers for the Windows version you're running on said system. Something like a 1660 Super or RX 580 would be the most I would put in such a machine.

yeah, but they may run a bit choppy in CPU heavy games. I used an i5 4690k up until spring 2022, and the last year it was paired with a 3060. Pulled around 70 fps in RDR2

mITX is awesome! I regret nothing (apart from when picking parts or have to do maintainance *cough*cough*)

Depending on which specific CPU, the highest you should probably go for are RX 590,1060 6gb and those 1660/s/ti cards. You could probably get away with 2060, but it will probably get bottlenecked a bit.

Some games will REQUIRE specific instruction sets before they even open...
4th Gen Haswell AVX2 included can run games the 2nd Gen can't even open... (regardless of CPU strength)

IMO I'd not pair anything much faster than (Relative GPU's of similar output) GTX1070/RTX3050/GTX1660 series with them..

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
