Help with choosing memory for my new system

Hi everyone,

I’ve been planing a new system for a while. I’ve decided to go full AMD route. I’ve picked most of the components other than the RAM. I just can’t decide, sooo many choices it’s overwhelming.

I definitely can be ok with 32gb but I would really appreciate 64gb considering that I will probably have a few virtual machines running a a few docker containers.

I am stuck on deciding between these two modules: ($179.99)

1. Mushkin Enhanced Redline 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 5600 (PC5 44800) Desktop Memory Model MRF5U5609CCM32GX2

CAS Latency 28
Timing 28-34-34-89
Voltage

1.35V

2. Mushkin Enhanced Redline 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6400 (PC5 51200) Desktop Memory

CAS Latency 36
Timing 30-37-37-96
Voltage 1.35V

CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X3D

GPU: 7900xtx

Mobo: ASRock X670E Steel Legend

Is this a sufficient cup cooler: Deepcool LT720

I’m kinda new here so please let me know if I need to further adjust my post to meet the full posting guidelines.

Up to you, I'd go for option 1 for it's lower cas latency then bump the speeds up manually to 6000mhz, though I'm comfortable with overclocking ram myself.

If you aren't and don't want to do deal with anything other than enabling XMP/DOCP then option 2 should be the more user friendly option as you won't need to manually overclock it to get 6000mhz or more speeds.

option 2 with guaranteed hynix a dies

just that after you enable xmp manually set ram freq to 6000 so you dont need to do any extra tuning

you wont ever have to swap rams unless 64gb is not enough anymore since you can simply tune it to whatever a future cpu needs speed wise be it 8000 or 10000+

why this board in particular?

b650e taichi has usb4 on the rear i/o alongside a postcode and eclk for x3d overclocking so you can overclock the x3d ccd if you wish, next step up would be the x670e-a/f/e since those also have eclk

and if you dont need any of the bells and whistles you can get a cheaper board like the b650 livemixer

even a phantom spirit 120 will do more than fine

if you just want the aesthetics of an aio then sure lt720 or liquid freezer iii

I know, I'm surprised RAM faster than 30 exists on DDR5

Ahh, I see. Yeah, they're not very common and usually a lot more expensive.

Nvm guess they aren't that much more anymore. The last time I looked into sub 30CL DDR5 it was $40 more or higher.

Yes, the 5600 is CL28, 6000 is CL30, 6400 is CL32, etc.  CL should be 1/2 the speed for DDR5. in general.  Disregarding the Zero's.

@filpo loves his 5600CL28's.

stability for am5 might be worse with 28 though, that's why we all spec 6000 CL30s

though 5600 28 might be worth a gamble if you're the type of person that wouldn't mind taking time to tune the ram
