Btw I estimate the power consumption without the GT 710 around 200W

It’s a haswell quadcore, that system with the gt 710 is maybe drawing 160 tops under completely maxed load including the ram and drives.

In terms of a GPU for this, not requiring additional power, and not wanting to use adapters, RX 6400 or any of the 1650 variants which don’t use external power, Zotac makes one that comes to mind immediately.

And if you just want something more powerful than a gt 710 in general, RX 550, 460, 560 or GT 1030, GTX 750ti, 1050, 1050ti or 1630.

I have watched Linus' video about the Dell Optiplex but I'm still unsure what to do. I have had my Dell Optiplex 9020 Mini-Tower Desktop (Intel Core i5 4590 3.3Ghz, 20GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz, 480 WD SSD, 2 WD 1TB Hard Drive, Inno3d GeForce GT 710, and the stock 290W 80 PLUS Gold Power supply) for awhile now and I want to upgrade the GT 710 to a GTX 1650 without changing the power supply (Btw I estimate the power consumption without the GT 710 around 200W), but the thing I'm unsure about is if my power supply can handle the upgrade. I have searched for multiple 1650 s and every single one of them recommended a 300W power supply and I don't want to use SATA to 6pin adapter. Thus, which GTX 1650 should I choose or should I change my choice of the GPU (recommend one if so). Thanks.

Basically you need this 1650

https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/zotac-gaming-geforce-gtx-1650-oc-gddr6
slot power only

alternatively a sata to 6 pin with a low power card like a 1650 isn’t the end of the world, the reference spec for a 1650 is 75 watts with no additional connectors. Seeing a 6 pin on one for models with a heavier oc, it’s still usually under 90 watts, so the additional power going through the adapter is well within its operational spec.

I used a 2x SATA to 6-pin for a GTX 1060 on a significantly nicer Optiplex (i5-7500) and it worked fine with the 240w PSU. Make sure you get the one with 2 SATA connectors, the one with 1 SATA to 6-pin is a FIRE HAZARD.

The PCIe slot does 75w and each SATA can deliver 54w - the theoretical max wattage is about 180W, but obviously, 1) fire hazard and 2) overloaded PSU.

I love making PCPartPicker lists.

If I answer your question (or someone else), please mark it as the answer.

PC SPECS: Intel i5-12600K, RX 6700 XT, 32GB DDR4 RAM

Favorite cheap but great tech: AMD RX 6700 XT, Yunzii YZ75 Keyboard, Acer Nitro XV272U Vbmiiprx

I have a optiplex also that I upgraded a while back with a 1050ti. But a 1650 would be great. And those two doesn't need a 6 pin

I was thinking abt 1050ti too but I said I will prob upgrade my system later down the line so I should prob choose the 1650 which is better.
