Is there a safe method to move entire programs from one drive to a different one?

Well it's not going to explode. But I guess what you're asking is "can I copy this program from one place to a different drive and have it work"?

 

It's going to be a gamble every single time. You could look up how to make Symlinks, but if you're asking to move a program from one Windows installation to another,

 

 

Just reinstall it.

 

It differs from program to program. Steamapps you can do.

 

Some others you can, some others you can't.

They have data elsewhere and entries in the registry.

If it's on separate partition ( not on C ), then yes.

You just copy it, and then swap the partition mounting letter for the older one.

Not really.

 

When you install a program or game, most most of the files are put into the obvious folder ....c:\program files\some program\.... however, there are loads more files that get there way into Windows system folders and entries made to the registry so the best way to move a program from one location to another is to uninstall and reinstall.

 

Some programs work fine by just moving the folder but others wont.

Just don't need the additional horses that the 13700 or 13900k has for just gaming.

 

I game at 4k max settings on an LG Oled TV @ 120hz so I'm not fussed about super high fps.
