I'm sorry for this clumsy video of my build I tried to show you everything I could.

Specs (connected to the motherboard)

  • Mobo: B650e-f from ASUS,
  • Cpu: amd 7800x3d,
  • Psu: rm1000x shift
  • Fans: nhd15 from noctua,
  • Ram: 2x16 gb G.SKILL Flarex5 ddr5, (model F5-6000J3238G16GX2-FX5) amd expo
  • Storage: nvme, 1gb ssd Western Digital Blue SN570
  • Gpu: rtx 4090, gigabyte windforce.
  • Monitor: LG oled tv A1 (connected to gpu and MOBO via 2 separate hdmi cables. Edit: it's no longer connected to the mobo as per someone's suggestion here, but I still get the same results). I will get "a real monitor" next month.

I followed the Linus guide step by step, along with some other videos more specific to my specs.

But when I try to jump the motherboard with a screwdriver (step 7, without the power button) nothing happens... The MOBO's logo lights are turn on (so it's receiving power), but when I insert the screwdriver in between the pins to boot (tried with multiple ones) the fans don't spin, I see nothing on my TV/monitor, and no LED light turns on signaling me an error.

I have the fans connected, all CPU pins are connected to the PSU, I used the cable that comes with the PSU to plug it to the GPU, the GPU is also connected to the TV using an hdmi (I think this is fine? I want to use it as a monitor). I even updated the Bios using an USB.

Am I not seeing something? Perhaps it's too obvious, I'm just a newbie when it comes to hardware and cables... Maybe I screwed the Cooler too hard? But I don't think the mobo wouldn't even start if that were the case. Maybe I somehow caused a short?

Did you update the bios before or after the computer wouldn't work? Also, I'm guessing you are just using bios flashback, since you can't see anything on the display?

I updated the bios after trying many times to get it work. Yes, I used Bios Flashback. Here's the video I saw on the topic, all the correct lights turned on and then the process finished, but still I cannot startup my build.

Ok, just making sure. Sounds to me like something isn't plugged in properly. I'd triple check your all of your power and component connections(check the PSU side too). I'd also reseat the CPU/Ram and check the CPU socket for any bent or broken pins.

There’s a small chance that your screwdriver is not able to short the pins, try a non coated screw driver if possible.

Welcome to the forums!
Unplug the HDMI from the mobo, only use display out from GPU

Agree with Tyler, try another piece of metal like a fork or knife

I assume your CPU fans are plugged in but it's hard to see

Thanks, I tried with a fork and a knife and it didn't work.

I attach some pics of the CPU and MOBO after my first failed attempt to boot. I think I screwed the cooler too hard against the cpu, but still it seems ok, at least to me.

I will try building one last time and I think I will ask a technician if I'm still out of luck.
