granted DDTS does this optiplex thing a lot and they usually perform well enough,  even before he goes crazy with them ala:

Optiplex is very different because those use consumer grade CPUs with notably higher core clocks than any Xeon, which is better for gaming. 

 

The Dell Precision/HP Z series is a very different story though. Sure, a 5800x3D is $250 but a z620 workstation - case, motherboard, PSU, CPU, and RAM included - is $250. Just add a graphics card and you're good to go. Fine for budget gaming if you need more horsepower than an Optiplex of the era.

Or on the other side, spend like $1600 on a high spec Z8 G4 or Z840 and now you have a ludicrously powerful workstation that will outlive everyone you know.

generally a cpu should last longer than just 1 generation,  so whatever comes after ryzen 7000 you'll probably need to upgrade.
