Did I get Scammed?

Hey guys had a quick doubt, I had bought a Omen 17 Ck2004tx just 3 months ago and it had a lot issues and in the end they said the motherboard died and need to be swapped. After they swapped my motherboard they said the SSD could also be bad and needs to be swapped and said yes to it and now when I checked crystal diskmark info it says its that my gen4 that they claimed is running at PCIE 3x4 mode

SSD Used is a samsung MZVLB1T0HBLR-00H1

Also I used Samsung Magician Software and it also said PCIe 3x4

Please Help me😭😭

So If it was Gen4 SSD It should run at PCIe 4x16 right?

No, it would run at PCIe 4x4.

M.2 drives only use a maximum of 4 lanes.

English is not my first language, so please excuse any confusion or misunderstandings on my end.

I like to edit my posts a lot.

As @Average Nerd said above.

Also with addition : If your motherboard support Gen 4 NVME.

If your motherboard only support Gen 3, then any Gen 4 or above NVME will just run as Gen 3.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

No idea, cba to try and figure out what kinda motherboard he got.

I simply put that as an additional info in case OP doesn't understand how it works.

The CPU supports Gen4 and Gen5, and I don't think even HP is that cheap. However, the marketing copy only lists the SSD's capacity, not necessarily its speed, probably so they can equip it with whatever SSD of the appropriate capacity they have in stock at the time.

Besides, if their old SSD reported it was running at Gen4 speeds, then the slot should support at least Gen4 speeds.

Sounds like the repair depot didn't buy an equivalent part, either intentionally ("we'll sub this cheaper part out to save money") or accidentally ("a 1 TB SSD is a 1 TB SSD".)

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

From factory it supports gen4 and it came with a kioxia gen4 SSD and once they swapped it with the claimed gen 4 SSD it started to run in PCIe 3x4 . Also this was a under warranty repair

They pretty much replaced your gen 4 SSD with a 5 year old (and very well used) gen 3 SSD and while I'm not certain that it happens it's likely that your system will only drop down to the drives supported specifications (which is why it's showing PCIe 3.0 x4 as current and supported in the transfer mode section).

Not that one specifically. He's talking about the design. It was released in 2020. Yours has 4200 hours of use. That is less than 6 months of 24/7 use.

Kioxia XG8 - it's good MID/high range SSD with DRAM and TLC.

So it was a downgrade, but Hey, they could have give you actually bad PCIe 4.0 Dramless QLC SSD, they didn't go full cheap. And we do not know if SSD was actually good or not.
