Best app to compare texts

Got several large text files that often I want to compare the differences off. Many browser "apps" stop half way through cause it takes too long or they just highlight complete tosh that's wrong, nor do I know about their data policy and what they do with the data I submit.

 

Is there some offline version or one that can handle at least 20k characters? Best example is the Gits version control where it highlights the difference from the previous compared file.
