Hey guys, so yesterday I went out and bought a Mechanical keyboard for the first time in my life :D. I originally had a Razer DeathStalker membrane keyboard (say what you will about Razer's product quality but mine functioned as if it were brand new the entire time I owned it. I gave it to my dad now.) and decided I should upgrade to a mechanical keyswitch keyboard. I always wanted to but never knew which one to get, so what I did was spend a good few months on Linus' channel and here on the forums seeing what the community members thought were great quality keyboards. In the end I got a Corsair Vengence K70 keyboard. It has a lot of the features that I wanted but I had to make a compromise. I copuldn't fine a 16.8million RGB backlit keyboard with a good wristrest so I settled for comfort rather than bling. The good thing is, my PC doesn't glow so there isn't really any sort of color scheme going on with my build. My first impressions with the mechanical keyboard were a little awkward. The keyswitches felt very different and much more accurate. I'm still getting used to not bottoming out the keys but they are definitely very quiet by my standards. All in all the typing experience is unreal compared to a membrane keyboard. I'm faster, make fewer mistakes and am more comfortable while gaming. The keyboard is the Cherry MX Red edition, a long time ago I was looking at the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate but that uses Razer switches now and I heard they were terrible. I love the individual key backlighting feature though I would never use it. The dedicated media keys is also a great feature. The only thing I find pointless is the USB passthrough, I have no use for it so there is an extra USB hanging behind my PC.

All in all I love my keyboard and just thought I'd share my first experience, what did you guys think when switching to mechanical?

Congrats and Welcome, to the #MechanicalKeyboardsMasterRace!

Great choice of a keyboard. It was one of 2-3 that I had a very hard time deciding between. I believe it was in my top 2 at the end, and I also had to sacrifice a few things. If only there was a "perfect" keyboard. :D

As far as your comment on the new 2014 BlackWidow - you don't have to buy the one with Razer switches.. They MX Blue switches are still sold, alongside of the newer one. And as far as people saying they don't like the new switches? Well, I had a BlackWidow 2013 and spilled sweet tea allllllll over the thing, and I loved it so much I went with the new Razer switches. Thought I would give it a spin, as I loved the BlackWidow a lot. My favorite Razer device by far. The only thing I can say about the Razer switches? THEY ARE MX-BLUES THAT WERE PAINTED GREEN! Lol, well, not really.. But I seriously cannot notice a difference between the Blues and Razers... Although, due to the point at which the keys are registered, I did notice a slight increase in my typing speed - I proved that to be correct by doing some TypeRacer.com tests. But as far as the feel, the click, actuation, etcetc.. Nothing I can distinguish. I even have the previous one sitting right next to me right now. And yes, MX-Blue's are my favorite by far. I love the tactile & clickyness.

But enough about that - Once again, just want to reassure your choice and once again, you made a damn solid choice. I'm sure you'll love it. My next keyboard will be a Corsair. Just to switch things up.

Are you even allowed to be at LTT with a Membrane keyboard? I'm pretty sure it's in the Forum Rules & Code of Conduct.

REPORTED!

My parents decided not to get me one. But my HP membrane keyboard feels pretty good.
