So for two years I have had my 2500k @ 4.0Ghz and just a few minutes ago when clicking onto Youtube one of my CPU fans went into overdrive and started spinning at 100%. I was like what the hell and instantly powered off my pc. Got an error message saying my overclock failed. I went and just dropped the turbo down to 3.7Ghz. This has never happened before and there is no way it could have overheated for a few seconds because the fan was spinning and I keep my PC on Power Saver mode when browsing and stuff.

What just happened?

At 4.0 unlikely unless the tiny asian blowing on his CPU got tired

or his motherboard was dumping volts like Americans do tea. Either of which are unlikely (Asians have great work ethic)

Error: 410

Not me, I am pure Asian and I am a true procrastinator.

Maybe there was a power surge?

Thats just asus; if you power it unexpected down it will give that stupid warning at post. It happens even with the stock settings, shut the pc during post - "overclock failed". Just ignore it and fix your fan control or perhaps replace the tim or get a new heatsink, it shouldn't jump to 100%

Like Faa said unexpected shutdowns trigger the overclocking failed routine on ASUS motherboards. Redial settings and re-test.

i think the problem is, is that you are running it too slow. it was crying to be at 4.8ghz :)

Nah. I am fine with my 4.0 overclock. I don't trust this motherboard to overclock (p8p67 LE). The motherboard already throttles at 4.3. I have already went through one of these already. The first one shorted out after two weeks.

Well the fact that I never had this problem over the past two years just kind of shocked me. But that overclock failed isn't what bothers me it is that the fan just jumped straight to 100% for no reason. My temps are fine.

if it can't hold a 2500k at 4.3ghz, i would seriously get a new board. z68 and z77 boards are dirt cheap now and there are loads that are solid and could get a hell of a lot more out of you cpu.

There is no point for me to do that now. I plan on buying a 4790k and a non-shit z97 motherboard.

Just go in your bios, advanced mode > monitor > put your cpu fan profile to quiet mode.

Agreed but there's no point either getting a 4790k.

It is already on quiet mode. And there is a point. I can't stream games in high quality with my 2500k. Plus my 2500k bottlenecks my 290. I can't even reduce bf4 settings to get better performance so I am forced to play on ultra.

Mate,

Intel-Quick-Sync-DVDFabblog.jpg

Use it :P OBS supports it, it reduces the cpu load drastically. If you don't have a nvidia gpu just get a z68 board
