Just updated to this cpu from a i9 7900x with a 240 nzxt cooler when I download games on steam the temp goes for 45 to 70 my old cpu did not do this any idea why does this cpu just do this

The Ryzen 7000 series fluctuate a lot in temperatures and this is normal behaviour.

Downloading games from steam uses quite a lot of CPU as its installing the game as well.

The Ryzen 7000 have a set point to be at max temperature before limiting power or clockspeed, seeing temperatures up to 85c constantly is actually how they are designed.

If you want me to link some sources that explains all this, let me know.

Okay it explains a lot just checking a run a 3090ti fe and this cpu is that a good combo I’m getting fps drops in fortnite going for like 240 cap to 70 and this was the reason I upgraded it in the first place to stop this from my old cpu I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong

Yeah, dont worry about the temperatures 🙂

The 7800X3D is the fastest gaming CPU on the market so it pairs nicely with any high end GPU like the 3090Ti.

Framedrops can happen due to many different things, Have you enabled EXPO / XMP in the BIOS?

You mean i9 7900K ?

Whatever, Ryzen do jump fast in temps when in use, as they're dynamically allocating power to the cores, much more than the more linear Intel behavior

My 5900X goes full throttle on big downloads, 90% usage 75-80C

No worry then until you reach 90C+

Lets not even compare the two completely different architectures, and process nodes.

For what its worth, I have not observed spikes of any kind during my time with Ryzen, just as easy to cool as where I left off with Intel. Maybe work on perfecting your TIM application, could be helpful.
