So, I thought AI suite 3 was kinda messed up with its cpu temps, so I cracked up aida64 and realtemp.  I decided to run a stress test for 5 minutes just to see the temps.  There are cores (eg: core#1, core#2) which it would show temps for, it also showed temps for the "cpu" just something called cpu. So while my core temps were bouncing between 40s and 50s my cpu temp in ai suite and in aida were 42 most of the time.

Does this mean my cpu is broken?  Because the cpu temp isn't near equal to the core temp?

Edit, and the problem is that AIsuite changes the fans based on cpu temperature.

No, it's not broken. Monitoring the temperature of computer components isn't an exact science, and there usually is abit of variation depending on what program you use.

There's also the issue of measuring core temperature vs. measuring core package temperature. Yep, it's confusing.

Thank you, but the problem I have is AI suite changed fan speeds based on cpu temperature, so while the cores are lets say 50 and the cpu is 40 the fan speeds will be as if they were at 40c.

Also too, throughout the test the cpu temps never got above 42.  NEVER

CPU temp is what actually matters, individual cores not as much however I would keep my cores below 70 - 80 degrees

If you have an ASUS board, I would trust what AI Suite says over AIDA. Are you sure that you have the fan speed profiles applied?

Again, you're talking about CPU core (TJ max) vs CPU package temperatures (Tcase, they're different). CPU package temperature is always lower than the core temperature
