Need feedback for a build that will be inside a desk cabinet

Budget (including currency): 650€

Country: Portugal

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Some AAA games (Shadow of the Tomb Raider), light photo and video editing, deskwork in general

Other details: No peripherals needed as it's an upgrade from another build. No storage also needed because I will repurpose the disk from the dead laptop (recently upgraded from hdd to ssd)

Hey everyone, I need some feedback for a build that will be serving as a base for future upgrades. My laptop had fried and I've decided it was cheaper to build a desktop instead of spending the double of the money on a new laptop.

I've created this build and I wanted your opinion about it in terms of component compatibility and if the cooling solution will be enough to the PC be inside a desk cabinet with poor ventilation. My concerns is that the stock cooler won't withstand that poor ventilation so I would appreciate more feedback about the cooling solutions!

I would be cautious getting a 5500 unless the motherboard has bios flashback. Check the bios version of the motherboard you are going to get and ensure compatibility. This chip was released later in the CPU cycle. Hopefully the board manufacturers updated their stuff.

Those are nice combos thank you! I have only 2 questions:

In your opinion does it make a difference to switch from R5 5500 to R5 5600? I saw on UserBenchmark that the performance difference is only 8% and the specs are almost identical.

As for the GPU the RX 6650XT is indeed a better choice! I have just one question. Will I feel any change in terms of rendering or gaming? I've only used NVIDIA GPUs till today and I don't know how the AMD GPUs are nowadays.

Ok so what is the best way to cool it? An AIO would perform better in this case?

I've check the CPU support list of the motherboard and it supports the 5500 without the BIOS flashback so I don't think it will be a problem, PCPartPicker would also alert if BIOs checks would be needed if i recall correctly

I understand I just wanted you to be cautious as sometimes pcpartpicter will show a caution or be unaware.

For aio vs air cooling really the best option is to vent the hot air created away and bring the freshest air in. However you do this could be case orientation or fan configuration

Thank you for advising me to search for that because I actually forgot to do that beforehand!

Ok so I will investigate a bit further how can I improve airflow in and out of the case, probably I will drill some holes in the cabinet to make it happen!

Note to be cautious about UserBenchmark as their numbers don't show a complete picture. User reviews on YouTube would be more accurate.

AMD gpus are good(in my experience). I swapped from a 1060 to 2080ti to 6900XT to 6900XTXH. I prefer their user interfaces. For rendering and gaming I didn't notice anything... It can sometimes be game specific as games seem to favor certain ones.

Yeah Linus made some holes to attach fans for intake and exhaust. It's a great idea.

I made my HTPC and drilled a hole in the back of the cabinet to try to get an air escape but it still gets really hot. The case doesn't have the best airflow 😂 and because of the size of the case it has to go a certain direction

*I took off side panel and cpu cooler cover because of glare and reflection

Yeah that was my concern, I will have to dig around to see the best configuration to have the best airflow possible

No. What I'm trying to say is that if airflow is restricted it doesn't matter how good the CPU cooler is. What you need to do is improve the airflow through the cabinet or move the case to a less restricted location.

Rendering may be quite a bit worse. Gaming should be better but look for used 3060 12gb’s on the market for rendering

Please don’t use userbenchmark. It’s a horrible tool

the difference between them is that the 5600 has more cache (which is more useful for gaming), it’s got pcie 4 (not a huge deal but still good) and it boosts to 4.4ghz instead of 4.2. You should be fine with the 5500. I’ve got a 5600 with a 3060 and there’s no bottleneck so you should be fine with the 5500, just know you lose quite a bit of cache (16mb of it which is a lot in cache world)
